Prairie Mountain Health, along with other RHAs in the province, has awarded their pharmacy services contract to MediSystem Pharmacy Manitoba Ltd., based out of Ontario.

The Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy has provided services to care homes in Dauphin, but will no longer as of April 1.

Barret Procyshyn, pharmacist with the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy, explained the changes.

“Previously the medication aspect of care homes were taken care of by their local pharmacy,” noted Procyshyn. “So there was a provincial-wide contract, but each personal care home was allowed to choose their local pharmacy and have them provide medical service; that changed.  The province put out a provincial RFP (Request For Proposals), where you had to bid for certain large regions, and in the end one pharmacy took over most of the province.”

Care home patients will have to get their prescriptions from MediSystem in order to have them covered by the province.
