Federal Energy Minister Jim Carr will be in Churchill today to announce funding for a number of areas, including economic development.

He will be the first federal cabinet minister to visit the port town since it lost its rail link to the south earlier this year because of spring flooding.

It's not known if Carr will say anything about Ottawa's bid to get the Hudson Bay Railway and Port of Churchill into local hands.

His visit comes as a litre of gas in Churchill costs more than two dollars, while grocery costs remain much higher than before the spring washout, despite a federal fresh-food subsidy.
