Winnipeg's fire and paramedic service says it is carrying out an internal investigation after some potentially dangerous drugs were stolen from an ambulance.

City officials say the ambulance was parked at the St. Boniface Hospital at about 3 a-m when the drugs were stolen.

They say four vials of the potent opioid fentanyl were taken, along with two vials of midazolam -- which can be used for anesthesia.

Authorities say any amount of either of the drugs could be dangerous or even fatal if taken without medical supervision.
