A Winnipeg judge has allowed the former lawyer of accused letter bomber Guido Amsel to offer limited testimony at his trial on attempted murder and other charges.

Judge Tracey Lord ruled that because of solicitor-client privilege, Sarah McEachern could only testify about a hallway meeting she had with Guido Amsel on the day she withdrew as his lawyer.

McEachern had signed on in 2013 to represent Amsel in a case involving business dealings with his ex-wife and told court she withdrew after he asked her whether his ex-wife or her lawyer Maria Mitousis had paid her.

Amsel is accused of sending letter bombs to the former office where McEachern worked, as well as to the office of his ex-wife and to the office of Mitousis, who lost her hand in the only bomb that exploded.
