Corn harvest is approaching in the Parkland with most farmers beginning this week or still needing to wait another week.
Pam de Rocquigny the General Manager of the Manitoba Corn Growers Association goes into detail about the condition of crops and how much longer farmers are going to have to wait in the Parkland.
“We are definitely approaching that time of year where grain corn harvest will start. I think right now most crops have either reached maturity or are pretty close. Of course, at that point, we wait for the crop to dry down a little bit further a little bit to minimize drying cost. It’s, obviously, depending on each cost. But depending on each, field harvest could start in some parts of the province already. But depending on the field it could start within a week or within 2 weeks depending on how fast dry down occurs.”
According to Pam de Rocquigny, crops are advanced enough that a killing frost is not a concern in terms of having a significant impact on the yield.
