A major addition is coming to the Neepawa Area Collegiate that includes a new Child Care-Centre and 9 new classrooms at the school.

The project will be supported through more than $92.4 million dollars in planned capital spending by the province in 2017-18 for public school infrastructure projects.

Honourable. Ian Wishart, Manitoba Minister of Education and Training, talks about why the upgrades are needed.

"Its been increasingly crowded, they're operating lots in portables attached to the schools. So this will create a campus situation between the middle school and high school there. They will be to re-purpose the remaining school for Kindergarten to Grade 4 and of course there is a free standing child care facility to be associated with it. I don't know a rural community that isn't struggling to find enough child care."

The project is expected to start construction in early 2018 and the new school space and Child-Care Centre is scheduled to open in September 2019.
