Ottawa and the Government of Manitoba will be giving $61,000 dollars to Dairy Farmers of Manitoba in finding future preventive methods to tackle the infection mastitis.

Mastitis is a costly disease that causes inflammation affecting dairy cattle.

According to David Wiens Chair of the Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, the investment will improve other areas for dairy farmers.

"As everything else over the years the quality of milk is continuously improving and as well as our food safety program on farms, so this stuff tails into that very nicely... it also supports our customer insurance program that we have on the farm."

The decision announced by Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler and Terry Duguid, MP for Winnipeg Centre last week is one of five project investments.
