As one storm passes, Manitoba now prepares for extreme cold weather.

Earlier this week the province was slammed with its first winter storm with roughly 30 cm of snow falling by as late as Wednesday.

The snow in the region has now stopped, however local warning preparedness meteorologist Natalie Hasell with Environment Canada implies that extreme cold temperatures are on their way.

"The low pressure system that was over southern Manitoba has moved off, however, we are in the picture now that there is a low off to our east, there's a ridge building to our west, so Manitoba is stuck in the circulation between these two."

Hasell also says the changes are drastic in comparison to what Manitobans were experiencing last week.

Environment Canada are calling for temperatures as cold as minus 27 by the end of the week.
