A passion for Dauphin and its people is how colleagues are describing a former city councillor who passed away over the weekend.

Wes Bernat died on Sunday at the age of 68.

Patti Eilers sat on council and the Intermountain Conservation District board with him. She says he had a great knowledge of the issues and was very helpful for her when she was new.

"I always found him to have a good understanding and a history of ongoing issues and developments in the city. Also, he always brought in concerns regarding the ratepayers and what their interests and what they felt their needs were."

City of Dauphin CAO Brad Collett says Bernat was extremely passionate for civic politics and wanted to see the city and area progress, and he will be greatly missed.
