Dauphinites are using more energy.

Steve Sobering is working as a community energy advocate for Manitoba Hydro and the City of Dauphin. He says stats show over the last 10 years residents in Dauphin are installing more electric furnaces than gas, and they're increasing their consumption.

"It's gone up over about 10 per cent over the last five years. So people are building or installing new furnaces and they're using more energy, and that's kind of-- you know, when you're putting in new equipment and you're building new homes it should be the opposite."

The goal in Dauphin is net zero efficiency. A two-year pilot project is in its second month here. A pilot project is also being carried out in The Pas.
