Keystone Agricultural Producers' are exploring the idea of a national Environmental Farm Plan program.

In Manitoba, the program is jointly delivered by the province and KAP with the intention of helping farmers identify environmental risks on their farms.

KAP General Manager James Battershill says the programs are currently handled on a provincial basis, and that they do want to retain a degree of independence in how the programs are rolled out.

"The idea of the national Environmental Farm Plan is really to standardized the program, so that they meet the demands of society that are sort of being passed through retailers and suppliers... what we don't want to see is all the companies that farmers sell product to, is to be inventing their own environmental standardization and certificate program."
