A study suggests a fair share of illegal cigarettes are being smoked in Dauphin.

The study, commissioned by The Western Convenience Stores Association, suggests illegal tobacco use in the province is up compared to last year.

The study involved examining discarded cigarette butts at 30 sites in Manitoba. Samples were gathered between September 25th and October 8th.

A subsequent report lists the top 10 sites for contraband cigarette use. Number five on the list is the DRCSS, followed by the Dauphin Legion at number six, and Dauphin's City Hall at number eight.

20.2 per cent of the cigarettes gathered from the DRCSS were found to be contraband.

The study has a margin of error of 2.2 per cent at the 95 per cent level of confidence.
