Municipal government, business, and agriculture leaders in the Parkland recently had a chance to lay out their priorities and concerns in a meeting with the local MLA and the minister of Crown Services.
City of Dauphin deputy mayor Al Dowhan says he concentrated on the Main Street south development here.
"There's been a lot of developers interested in the development of south Main... Past planning said that the Manitoba Infrastructure was to purchase the land in 2016 and in 2017 we'd be building a service road and changes entrances, especially on the west side of Main Street. And we just wanted an update on that."
Dowhan says he also mentioned library funding, making the local practical nursing program permanent, helping in administrative costs for the new university one program, and asked for an update on emergency services for the hospital.
RM of Dauphin Reeve Dennis Forbes was also on hand. He says he didn't really go with a wishlist, and many of the concerns he wanted to bring forward were proposed by the city representative.
Dauphin MLA Brad Michaleski says there was nothing brought up at the meeting he hadn't heard already but it was an opportunity for local people to speak to the minister directly.
Michaleski says Ron Schuler was on a tour of northern Manitoba, and asked him to arrange the meeting while he stopped in Dauphin.
