Boy Sentenced for Violent Assault on Girl Housed in Same Hotel by CFS

A teenage boy has been sentenced to three years for violently attacking a girl in a Winnipeg parkade.

Court heard the youth was 15 when he assaulted the 16-year-old girl in 2015.

The girl was taken to hospital in critical condition and has permanent brain damage.

Both teens had been in the care of Child and Family Services and were living in the same downtown hotel.

The case helped push the Manitoba government to stop placing foster children in hotel rooms.
