A woman who grew up in McCreary is making her name known in the TV industry.
Tammy Gillis has acted in many different short films, TV series and feature length films. She's most well known for her roles as Kelly in the TV series Supernatural, Claudia Powell in the TV series Motive and her lead role as Jenna Scott in the 2016 Unleashing Mr. Darcy.
Gillis got into acting after her high school English teacher, Darlene Grimstead, started up a drama club.
"She was a really cool really fun teacher that got us excited about performing." says Gillis. "So the very first year we did a play, I don't think there was any guys who joined it, so I ended up playing grandpa. But, every year after that I participated in the drama club."
After high school she moved to Winnipeg to go to University where she was scouted to start modelling. Through that, she started auditioning for commercials. Only liking it as a hobby, Gillis was exposed to other actors that worked in LA saying that she had the potential to make it a career, and it changed from there.
For the last couple of years Gillis has been working a lot more with the Hallmark Channel.
"Last year I was in four or five of Hallmark's projects which is pretty amazing. I love working for Hallmark" says Gillis.
Her recent project with the channel was co-starring in the movie Wedding Bells that premiered in the states in June and in Canada it aired in July.
Gillis was recently nominated for a 2016 Leo Award for Best Guest Performance in a Dramatic Series for her work in Ties That Bind where she got to work with Jason Priestley.
"He was super fun to work with. In Canada, everyone know who he is, i grew up watching him on Beverly Hills 90210" says Gillis. "It was really fun to work with him finally because he's a really incredible actor and director as well."
On the horizon for Gillis is her lead role in the film Menorca, which is a Farpoint Films feature film, that was shot in Manitoba and Spain last year and will be playing in film festivals and theatres later this year.
