A photographer can thank technology for the quick help they received after a nasty fall in Riding Mountain National Park.

Shortly after midnight this morning, emergency crews had to rescue an amateur photographer who slipped and fell 200 feet down an escarpment along Highway 10.

Dauphin fire chief Cam Abrey says the individual called 911 using their cell phone.

"911 in turn was able to pinpoint the cell phone within 30 metres approximately, just using triangulation, because the patient -- they weren't exactly sure of their exact location."

Abrey says the individual was not able to get out themselves due to their injuries and due to the steepness of the hill. They were taken to Dauphin hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
