Storms Cause Extensive Damage in Southern Manitoba
At least one tornado and two funnel clouds hit Manitoba during yesterday's storms, according to Environment Canada.
A tornado in Long Plain First Nation destroyed at least one house and damaged others. 18 families had to be put up in an emergency shelter.
A condo in Winnipeg had half its roof ripped off.
Wind gusts at Portage Southport were recorded at 122 kilometres an hour.

Shelter at Dauphin CN Station Getting $10K If Built Before 2017
The City of Dauphin is getting a $10,000 grant from the province to go towards a warming shelter at the CN station.
CAO Brad Collett says the plan is to put the shelter on the west side, between the parking lot and the station.
"We're still planning the project but we should be able to -- with their $10,000 and our $5,000, that should be able to cover the majority of the work, along with Via Rail's contribution for ongoing maintenance."
The hope is to have the shelter done by early-to-mid-fall.
The money from the province is dependent on the shelter being finished by the end of December.

Power Outages Will Be the Norm in Gimli Area for Next Few Months
Manitoba Hydro customers in Gimli and surrounding areas are set to experience power outages lasting up to three hours, beginning in July and lasting up to mid-November.
The reason for the outages stems from ongoing upgrades to hydro's electrical distribution infrastructure in the region.
Manitoba Hydro says the upgrades will increase power stability, reduce voltage fluctuation and improve the operation of machinery and electronic equipment connected to the system.
The outages will occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Manitoba Hydro crews will be placing signs notifying customers of these outages on major roads in the affected areas each morning.

Civilians Being Tortured in Ukraine, According to Report
A new report suggests that the detention and torture of civilians has become common in Ukraine, which has been torn by a separatist war in the east.
The joint report released today by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch says both the Ukrainian government and Russia-backed separatists have committed enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions and torture of civilians. Researchers based their findings on 40 interviews with victims.
The report suggests that civilians have been detained merely because they were suspected of supporting varying sides of the Ukrainian conflict, which began in April 2014 and has claimed more than 9,400 lives.

Ticket Lotteries for Hip Shows Announced
The Tragically Hip have announced a ticket lottery for their upcoming tour.
For each date on the "Man Machine Poem'' tour, there will be an opportunity to buy tickets on the day of the show.
Fifty winners will be selected from each show's lottery, and those people will each be able to buy two tickets.
The cutoff for lottery entry is 11 a.m. local times on the day of the show, and winners will be notified by email by one p.m. that day.
The tickets will be priced at face value and will range from best in house and mid-level.
