Police Investigating Homicide Near Morris
A small town in Manitoba is dealing with the aftermath of a homicide.
RCMP have found the body of a 54-year-old woman at a home in St. Jean Baptiste.
Danny Vanoosten, who is 56, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police say the accused knew the victim.

Teen Charged After Masked-Person Holds Fake Gun at Winnipeg Intersection
The deputy police chief says officers who responded to a woman wearing a face mask and brandishing a gun at one of Winnipeg's busiest intersections showed great restraint.
Gord Perrier says a 17-year-old was taken into custody, but things "could have ended very differently.''
He says the individual removed her mask, put the gun to her head and dropped to the ground when police arrived at Portage Avenue and Main Street.
Perrier says she was tackled as she walked away from officers with the gun in her hand.
He says the firearm turned out to be a replica, and although no one was hurt, he called what happened "extremely volatile.''
The teenager is facing numerous charges including possession of a weapon and public mischief.

Major Road Closure in Dauphin
A section of Main Street is blocked off in Dauphin today for sewer service repairs.
The 100 Block of Main Street North is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians.
Businesses in the area remain open.

DFC Annual Picnic is Today
There's plenty of fun to be had at the Dauphin Friendship Centre's picnic in the park.
The annual event starts at 4:30 today, with entertainment at 5.
DFC executive director Jeremy Smith says it's a celebration of summer.
"We have various local entertainers, face-painting for the children, children's games, and also a low-cost BBQ."
Smith asks those who attend to bring their own lawnchairs.

Here in Dauphin the humidex is going to make it feel like 39 degrees.
Elsewhere in southern Manitoba, Environment Canada has heat warnings in place.
Be sure to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water if you're outside.
The heat and humidity could bring thunderstorms as well.

New Canada Child Benefit Starts Rolling Out Today
Federal officials calculate that more than half of the children currently living in poverty in Manitoba will be lifted out, thanks to the government's new child benefit program.
They estimate that hundreds of thousands of people countrywide will see their family incomes rise over the next 12 months to above the low-income cutoff that measures poverty levels.
In Manitoba, it's estimated that a total of 21,000 children -- or 52 per cent of those now under the poverty threshold -- will be lifted above it.
In Saskatchewan, the number is given as 3,200 kids or 12 per cent, and in Alberta it's 46,000, or 42 per cent, but the numbers don't include aboriginal children living on reserve.
