Thomas Scott was one win away from winning a Manitoba match play championship.

He's back this year and will look to take his game one step further. It's championship season for Golf Manitoba as the match play event begins with a qualifier on Saturday at the Winkler Centennial Golf Club. Other Parkland stars teeing it up are Jackson Delaurier (Dauphin Lake Golf Club), Eric Prokopowich (Dauphin Lake Golf Club), and Keaton Jameson (former Swan Valley Stampeder) on the men's side.

Scott:

He went on an incredible run last year. After qualifying with a 72, he won four straight matches to advance to the final. He beat his friend Eric, 4&3, in the semifinals of region two. Scott's wins came in both thrilling and blowout fashion.

He beat Thomas Friesen, 6&5, before a 19-hole victory against Doug Penner. He beat Kaleb Lambert, 1up, and Prokopowich, 4&3.

Prokopowich:

Two best friends duked it out. Eric came up short. Before that, Prokopowich was playing some fantastic golf. He beat Keaton Jameson, 1up, and Dustin Dyck in 19 holes. He then beat Trent Robertson, 2&1. He qualified with a 73.

Prokopowich recorded an albatross earlier this year at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club, and he's back ready to make noise against the province's best.

Delaurier:

The Dauphin Lake Golf Club member did not play in this event last year. He is no stranger to championship golf, however. He's played in numerous Golf Manitoba junior events and on a number of tours.

All reports have Delaurier playing great golf so far this season. He's ready for the challenge, alongside some of his best friends.

Jameson:

Although Jameson is not from the Parkland, he is a former Swan Valley Stampeder, which is why he's been added to the list. He played 121 regular-season and 10 playoff games over three years with the team. During the 2017-18 season, he was captain and had 70 points.

Jameson qualified with a 76 last year. He lost his first match against Prokopowich.

The top 32 golfers will advance to the match play portion of the event. That takes place next weekend at the Elmhurst Country Club near Birds Hill.
