Roblin's high school is looking to do its part to raise money for the people of Fort McMurray.

Gillian Mitchell is a Grade 10 student at the school, and one of the organizers for the talent show and art auction fundraiser.

She says it is very important to her that the people of the fire-stricken community get the help they need.

"I think it's really important just because, if it happened here, I would want someone to do this for me. Even though it is far away, it has touched some people in our home town. When someone feels something like that, we feel for them too."

Mitchell says they already have a couple of performers and art pieces lined up, but more are always welcome.

"Anyone can donate art, and there will be a donation box in the front. We're accepting anybody who would perform in the talent show."

Mitchell, along with a few others from the school, have been going around to businesses in Roblin to try to get more support for the cause.

They are hoping to raise $1,000, with the money going to the Red Cross' efforts in Fort McMurray.

The talent show and art auction fundraiser will take place at Goose Lake High in Roblin Thursday, May 19 at 7pm. There is no cost to attend, but donations are appreciated.
