Members of the Dauphin Fire Department on top of the Dauphin Marketplace Mall

The Dauphin Fire Department has surpassed their fundraising goal!

As of about 4pm today, the fire department announced they have raised $15,291.66 in their "fill the boot" rooftop campout for muscular dystrophy.

DFD Lieutenant Cody Langlois says they had a lot of people coming by so far today.

"It started off really busy in the morning. We had people coming up before 7 to donate. By 9 o'clock, we had a couple hundred raised already. Today is going exceptionally well."

Last night was the fire department's first night on the roof of the Dauphin Marketplace Mall, and Langlois says he is glad it was not as cold as it could have been.

"First night wasn't that bad. It was quite cozy in the tent. We had a few guys that could snore, but we had fun, but no one got too cold. A little chilled, but nothing too bad."

Their fundraising goal was originally just $7,500, but they quickly doubled it after seeing how much support they got right away.

Anyone who donated at least $20 today is also entered in a draw to win a prize package, including an autographed photo of Winnipeg Jets prospect Chase DeLeo. The winner will be announced at 7pm tonight.

The Dauphin Fire Department will be on top of the Dauphin Marketplace Mall until Sunday afternoon.
