The Dauphin Fire Department held their 2022 Firefighters Appreciation Evening last night.
The event included speeches by municipal officials from the City of Dauphin and the RM of Dauphin along with several recognitions of service by Dauphin Fire Chief Cam Abrey.
The Firefighters that were recognized last night were:
- Daniel McKay for the completion of his Level 1 Training
- Daniel McKay, Brenden Greening, and Chris Davidson received their Firefighters Badges and took the Oath of Office
- Fabien Carriere, Devon Pylypchuk, and Mark Bass for 5 Years of Service with the DFD
- Ray Lofgren for 15 Years of Service with the DFD
Along with the years of service and training awards the Dauphin Fire Department was also able to award their 2021 Firefighter of the Year award after not being able to award it in person last year due to the pandemic.
The winner of the 2021 Dauphin Firefighter of the Year award was Ryan Murray.
As a part of the recognition that couldn’t be held last year the City of Dauphin and the RM of Dauphin were able to award Chief Cam Abrey with an award for his years of excellent service as well.
Chief Cam Abrey was announced as a recipient of the Governor General’s 20 Years of Exemplary Service Medal.
Chief Abrey was able to speak about the event and what it means to the firefighters.
The Firefighters really take it as a pat on the back from the employers, the City of Dauphin and the RM of Dauphin, and they feel that value. It's important for the morale of the firefighters and it also gives us a chance from the fire department side to make some presentations in recognition of the hours of training that individuals put in and for us as the administration of the fire department to say our thanks to them as well.
Chief Abrey also said that anyone who's interested in serving the community can head down to the fire station to discuss how to sign up and that all training will be provided if you want to join the Dauphin Fire Department.
