A local vet in Dauphin says it's exciting to see the province of Manitoba being ranked as the nation's leader in addressing animal welfare concerns.
The report by the animal legal defense fund had Manitoba ranked number one for having the toughest animal protection laws in the country.
Dr. Roxanne Neufeld from the Dauphin Vet Clinic says the one thing that stood out the most for her in the report, was that Manitoba was ranked number one for the second year in a row.
"There's always room to improve. The laws are now in place, now we just need the courts to be able to enforce the laws, you know, for humane treatment of animals, which is a good thing."
Neufeld says having strong regulations in place is important to help protect the animals that she helps care for.
