Steinbach's first line went off again and they proved to be the difference on Tuesday night in game three of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League finals.

Dauphin hosted their first finals home game since 2014 and they came out on the wrong end as the Pistons downed the home club, 5-4, in overtime in front of a tremendous crowd at Credit Union Place.

Just 55 seconds into overtime, Zach Power sauced a pass right in front of the net to Quinton Pepper and #25 did the rest as he went to the backhand and hoisted the puck up and over Carson Cherepak to lift Steinbach to victory. Cherepak made two unbelievable saves late in the third to force overtime.

The line of Power, Pepper and Birnie combined for five points, the same total they combined for in game one of the series. Steinbach jumped out to a great start in the game as they scored just 1:55 into the contest but just 1:59 later, Brayden Dube tied the game up with a goal from the goal line.

Pepper scored his first of the game 6:04 into the period but Mathew Rathbone came back for Dauphin and scored perhaps one of the weirdest goals you will see. He bounced the puck off the glass from the blue line and it redirected and snuck past the blocker of Simon Harkness as Dauphin tied the game. Cooper Rice scored with just 39 seconds left to give Steinbach a 3-2 lead after 20.

Dauphin's Logan Calder and Cordell Coleman would score for the Kings in the second as they took a 4-3 lead into the third. However, Steinbach didn't go down as Bryce Kilbourne took a drop pass from Travis Hensrud and hammered it up and over the glove of Cherepak and that goal ultimately forced overtime.

Pepper went on to end it 55 seconds into overtime. With the win, the Pistons have now taken a two games to one lead in the league's final and they will look to take a three games to one lead on Wednesday night.

You can listen to Wednesday's game on 730CKDM with Darnell Duff, the pregame show begins at 7:00 p.m.

Gilbert Plains' Riese Gaber is up for some hardware at the University of North Dakota and this comes really as no surprise.

The sophomore sniper had an all-star season with the Fighting Hawks, as he scored 15 times and added 22 assists in 34 games. He's been nominated for the Red Jarrett Male Athlete of the Year.

Riese is four years removed from winning the MJHL with the Steinbach Pistons and he also won the Anavet Cup in that same year. Ironically enough, Steinbach is in this year's league final against Dauphin and they have a two games to one series lead.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is going the distance.

Hosting a must-win game six on Tuesday against Estevan, the Flin Flon Bombers came up clutch as they scored three goals in the second period and another three in the third period to hammer the Bruins, 6-1.

1850 fans packed into the Whitney Forum and they had plenty to cheer about as Flin Flon racked up 43 shots in the win. Game seven will be played on Friday night at Affinity Place in Estevan and the Canalta Cup will be handed out on that evening.

Estevan will play host to the Centennial Cup while the Bombers will serve as the Saskatchewan representative.

For the first time since 2014, the Dauphin Kings will play a home game in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's championship series.

The Steinbach Pistons arrived in town late Monday night ahead of game two which goes Tuesday night at 7:30 at Credit Union Place. Both teams have flexed their offensive muscles so far in the series with the Pistons opening the series with a 5-1 win, Dauphin countered with a 5-1 win of their own on Saturday night.

Now the series is tied at one game apiece and Dauphin does have home-ice advantage for the next two games.

Carson Cherepak is the league's goaltender of the year in the regular season and he says the bounce back from the team in game two was huge.

"I think game two says more about us than what game one does," said Cherepak. "Bouncing back shows we're resilient. Some people may have thought game one would dictate how the series would go but that's not how we think."

If Steinbach wants to have extended success in the series, their first line will have to get back on track. After combining for five points in the first game, Quinton Pepper, Braden Birnie and Zach Power only combined for two points in game two.

"We knew going into this series that those three guys are talented and they make big plays," said Cherepak. "With that said, we have great players as well. There is a lot of talent on each team, without a doubt."

Neither team has really been able to get it going while on the man advantage as Dauphin is 2-for-12 while Steinbach enters game three 1-for-7. Dauphin did; however, score twice on the powerplay in game two.

You can hear Tuesday's game with Darnell Duff at 7:00 starting with the Parkland Source for Sports pregame show.

If you answered yes to that question, you're in luck.

The Dauphin Lake Golf Club has announced that they will open for the season on Saturday, May 7.

Power carts will be available; however, it is cart path only for the time being. You can book tee times by calling 638-9400.

It was a great season of volleyball for the Parkland U14 Predators girls team.

This year's roster included Magen Taylor, Claire Davis, Charlie Herman, Layne Minshull, Emily Mikolayenko, Addison Knight, Reese Graham, and Baylee McNabb. The head coach was Josh Braaksma and assistant coach Sheldon Graham.

The team won a bronze medal on three different occasions playing in tournaments in Virden, Dauphin and Brandon. What's more impressive about that is they only played in four tournaments.

"We weren't sure what we were going to start off with when we hosted tryouts," said Graham. "We certainly exceeded our expectations so we're extremely happy about that. Everyone worked so hard and it ended off well."

The team then ended off their season by competing in the provincial championships and they once again ended on the podium, this time with a silver medal. They played extremely well all season, ultimately coming up short against Dynamo in a championship thriller.

"We had a tough pool and ended up winning two of our three games in the round-robin," offered Graham. "A silver medal is pretty awesome and the girls should be extremely proud of themselves, they worked so hard all season."

Sheldon went on to say that volleyball in the Parkland is in a very good spot.

The 2009 Parkland Rising Stars put together a great weekend at a CCM Rising Stars Development tournament.

A busy weekend included the team playing four games and they won three of them. The all-Parkland squad downed Yellowhead, 8-2, they beat Norman, 9-1 and they took down Westman, 9-1.

In a hard fought battle, they would come up short against Winnipeg 1, 5-1.

A determined U18 team from Skownan First Nation wrapped up the Treaty 2 Minor Hockey Championships perfectly on Sunday.

They downed the Pinaymootang Knights to win the U18 Cup at Credit Union Place. The Dauphin River Chiefs; meanwhile, won the U15 Division as they beat the Dakota Warriors.

Skownan First Nation also won the U13 Division as they beat the Brandon Warriors in a great final. The Ebb & Flow Flyers U7 Team won their title as they beat the Minegoziibe Warrior U7 Team in the championship U7 final. Skownan First Nation also won U9 and U11.

It was a great weekend of hockey at Credit Union Place, congratulations to all winners.

A goal with less than six seconds left in regulation has put the Flin Flon Bombers on the brink of elimination.

Playing game five of their SJHL final against the Estevan Bruins, the Centennial Cup hosts scored with five seconds left to force overtime against the Bombers. In overtime, the Bruins carried most of the play and scored on a shot from the point to win the game, 3-2.

The win has Estevan one win away from winning the league's title; however, they will have to do so in the 'Zoo' if they want to win it in six. Flin Flon hosts game six on Tuesday night at the iconic Whitney Forum where another crowd of near 1600 is expected.

Regardless of what happens, both Estevan and Flin Flon will play in the national championships with the Bruins hosting and the Bombers will serve as the Saskatchewan representative.

They needed to respond on Saturday night and the Dauphin Kings certainly did that.

Down 1-0 in their best-of-seven championship series against Steinbach, Dauphin responded in a big way with a 5-1 win. The series is now tied at one game apiece heading into game three on Tuesday night.

Opening the scoring in the game for Dauphin was Cordell Coleman as the veteran sniped a sick shot that went up and over the glove of Simon Harkness as Dauphin took a 1-0 lead. Steinbach would find the back of the net for the first time, just 47 seconds into the second period on the powerplay as he one-timed a puck past Carson Cherepak.

Dauphin would take over from there as Klim Georgiev scored the game-winner on a one-time shot 6:02 into the second. In the third, Dauphin scored two goals on the man advantage with Nick Braun and Jayden Harris both scoring while a man up. Logan Calder would also score into an empty-net after making a great knockdown of the puck in the neutral zone and he did the rest.

Carson Cherepak put together another great performance as he made 27 saves, Simon Harkness; meanwhile, made 25 saves.

Dauphin will now host games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday, both at 7:30. Tickets for the games go on sale starting at noon on Sunday.
