The U18 Parkland Rangers are coming home with three of a possible four points.

In the first game of their weekend set, Parkland outshot and outchanced Kenora; but it wasn't enough. The Thistles downed Parkland in a shootout, 4-3. Landyn Garton, Ethan Carnegie, and Cash Clarkson scored for the Rangers.

On Sunday, the Rangers bounced back with a 7-1 win. Cade Legaarden had the hot stick with three goals in the win.

Quinten Fisk, Ethan Carnegie, Cam Sarna, and Cash Clarkson also found the back of the net.

The Gilbert Plains Trojans varsity girls volleyball team is set to play for a Buffalo.

The team hosted and dominated their regional qualifier.

They downed Wawanesa, Treherne, and Rivers. The provincials are set for December 1 to 3 in Fisher River.

They battled back at the end, but it wasn't near enough for the Dauphin Kings.

In front of an electric crowd, Kings fans were looking for something to cheer about, but they didn't have a chance until the game was well out of reach.

Hosting Ag Appreciation, Dauphin lost to Portage, 5-3.

The Kings fell down 5-0 in the game as Portage tied the season series at a game apiece.

Logan Walker, Alex Senf, and Aidan Brook scored for Dauphin as the team has lost two straight games.

The Dauphin Clippers football team was crowned consolation champions this year in the Rural Manitoba Football League.

On Thursday night, the team officially bundled up the season with their season-ending awards banquet.

Credit Union Place is no stranger to hosting big events and later this month, the largest sports venue in Dauphin will once again take centre stage.

The Dauphin Clippers varsity volleyball program is set to host the Manitoba High School Athletic Association's provincial championships. The event will take place from November 30 to December 2 and it will feature the top 'AAA' varsity teams in the province.

Besides the Final 4 of the 'AAAA' provincials, provincial championships are normally just held in high school gyms. Dauphin, as usual, will be going above and beyond.

Chris Wolfenden is the head coach of the varsity girls team and he says the excitement of playing in an arena continues to build.

"There will be a lot to watch and a lot to process for both fans and players," said Wolfenden. "It's fascinating to be able to play in the biggest venue in Dauphin. I think the girls are excited to feel like they're in the big time."

The women's team has won two of the past three tournaments that they have played in this season and most recently, they went perfect at their home tournament.

Thanks to their success, the Clipper girls have vaulted up the power rankings as the team is now ranked fourth in the province. That's up six spots from last week when they were ranked 10th.

"We have a lot of strong momentum right now," said Wolfenden. "We started our season testing ourselves at 'AAAA' tournaments and I believe that has been beneficial. We're definitely trending in the right direction and we will be ready to go come November 30."

While the boys team is not ranked as of now, they also won their home tournament this past weekend and have some top-end talent that they will showcase at Credit Union Place. Don't forget to continue to check the tournament's Facebook page daily for player profiles leading up to first serve.

The biggest game in the Canadian Football League season takes place on Sunday.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will play in their fourth straight Grey Cup as they go up against the Montreal Alouettes. One of the biggest questions football fans have right now is surrounding the status of Adam Bighill and Dalton Schoen.

Bighill played in the team's West Division Final against the Lions; however, he left after suffering a lower-body injury. Schoen; meanwhile, did not play in Saturday's contest. Winnipeg has arrived in Hamilton ahead of the big game and Mike O'Shea is hopeful that both will be in the lineup.

"Dalton is going through rehab and he's working on it every day and Bighill is beginning that process," said O'Shea. "They are professionals and they attack every day the same way. I will never rule a guy out, we will see how the rest of the week goes."

After winning 14 of their 18 games in the regular season, Winnipeg received a bye to the West Final where they locked BC down giving up just 13 points and Winnipeg's offence was efficient enough, without Schoen, as they put up 24 points. Montreal finished with 11 wins in their 18 games which means they have had a longer path to the championship game.

They first had to play in the East Semi-Final and it was a game in which Montreal led from start to finish and completed a 27-12 victory. Montreal then came out and led Toronto 10-3 after the first half last week and they put the game away by scoring 14 points and not allowing any in the third quarter in a 38-17 win.

Winnipeg and Montreal played on August 24. Winnipeg scored 27 points in the second half, not allowing any as they hammered the Alouettes, 47-17. Montreal then lost three straight games after that meeting, but they then caught fire as they won five straight games to end their season. A great playoff run has since followed with one more opponent ahead of them.

Jason Maas is the head coach of Montreal and he knows how much his team has grown since losing to Winnipeg back in late August.

"All of those plays and practices since that game have made us a better football team, the work has been put in," ended Maas. "We have proved that on the field with wins against some stiff competition. I know we are a better football team than we were in late August and I know we're a better football team than we were even two weeks ago. We are ready for this challenge, we have been working towards this."

In some exciting news, the Tiger-Cats have announced that this year's Grey Cup is sold-out and Green Day will perform the halftime show.

The Dauphin Clippers hockey team's roll to start the season has continued.

In Virden on Tuesday, five different Clippers scored in a convincing 5-2 win against the Golden Bears.

Tyron Sweetman, Jayton Kabel, Ronin Mouck, Boston Karlson, and Ryder Chapman scored for Dauphin.

Owen Chubka won the game in net as Dauphin has won seven of their eight games, their lone loss was in extra time.

Breken Brezden has put together yet another phenomenal performance on her way to a gold medal.

Living and training in Hamilton now, Brezden made her way to Moose Jaw for the 2024 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Senior Sectional championships. In her short program, Brezden scored 46.48, which was 11 more points than her second-place competitor.

Then in her free program, Brezden scored 87.37 points. That total was 22 more than her next competitor as Brezden went on to win the event by nearly 33 points.

With her outstanding performance, Breken qualified for the Skate Canada Challenge in December.

The Parkland U15 Rangers were recently in Regina for the Graham Tuer U15 Challenge.

Featuring top teams from across the country at the AAA level, the Rangers came out swinging as they won their first two games. Despite dropping their next contest after that, the Rangers did finish in second place in their pool.

For a team that is looking to find its way, Matt Kustra says that was a big help.

"That was a very big achievement for us, I personally do believe that," said Kustra. "We went up against some really good competition and we were able to come out with a couple of wins. I'm proud of the guys for how they battled."

Back at home, it hasn't been the season the Rangers were hoping for results-wise. The team's 2-9 record has them near the bottom of the standings, but their wins were very impressive. The team beat the Southwest Cougars in a thrilling 6-5 victory and they hammered the Norman Northstars, 14-2.

With their next game coming on Grey Cup Sunday, Kustra says it's about going back to the basics.

"It's all about locking down in our defensive zone," said Kustra. "We are very good offensively. We have to be a bit tougher and nastier in our zone and as the season goes on, I am certainly seeing some improvement. I really do believe moving forward we will start winning on a more consistent basis."

Now living in the Parkland region, this is Matt's first year as head coach of the U15 club and while it has been challenging at times as the former King gets accustomed to leading a group, he's enjoying every second.

"It's been a great experience, it has been very eye-opening for me," ended Kustra. "There is a lot of teaching involved and bringing a positive attitude forward, it's very important to make sure all of our players are enjoying coming to the rink. I'm very happy I was given this chance."

The Dauphin Kings have remained inside the top 20 as the Canadian Junior Hockey League released their weekly top 20 rankings.

Dauphin is now ranked ninth as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has three teams in the top 10. Steinbach is fourth while Winkler is fifth.

The Kings are coming off a split over the weekend which saw them beat Neepawa on Saturday before dropping a game against Winkler on Sunday. Despite Sunday's loss, the Kings are still 13-3 on the campaign which has them tied with Virden for first place in the West Division; however, the Kings do have two games in hand on the Oil Capitals.

Dauphin has won six of their last seven games and they still rank second in goals against this year with just 37 beating either Cole Sheffield or Austin Seibel. To note, Seibel won his second straight start on Sunday after he put together a tremendous performance full of 33 saves in the team's victory.

On Saturday, Blake Boudreau scored a pair of goals. Boudreau has now scored multiple goals in games on three different occasions this year and he now has nine goals on the campaign, which is tied for the team lead with Logan Walker. Anthony Bax continues to lead the team in scoring with 18 points as he scored a pair of goals over the weekend.

Coming up for the Kings is just a lone game this week on Friday, but it is an important one. The club will be hosting Ag Appreciation Night and more than $10,000 in prizes will be won. As a bonus, tickets to get into the game are just $7 for everyone.

It was a perfect weekend for the Dauphin Clippers varsity volleyball program.

Hosting their home tournament, both the boys and girls team captured a championship, just weeks ahead of hosting the provincial championships at Credit Union Place.

On the girls side, the Clippers won all three of their matches in the round-robin and they did not lose a single set. In fact, they didn't give up more than 19 points in a set during the round-robin. They then beat the Clippers second team and followed that up with a solid straight set win against Ste. Rose.

Dauphin then went up against the top-ranked team in the province at the 'AA' level in the Major Pratt Trojans and the Clippers made quick work of them winning in straight sets, 25-19 and 26-24.

On the boys side, the Clippers also dominated their competition. They hammered Ebb and Flow in straight sets and then made very quick work of Swan Valley in the finals, 25-11 and 25-11.

The Clippers program will host the provincial event at Credit Union Place from November 30 to December 2.
