The Dauphin Kings outchanced the Steinbach Pistons, but have no points to show for it.

Opening a weekend set, Dauphin lost to the Pistons, 5-1.

The Pistons opened the scoring in the first and after no goals were scored in the second, Logan Walker tipped the puck past Cole Plowman to tie the game.

A short time later, the Pistons scored two times in 21 seconds and they never looked back. They also scored twice on the power play late to secure the win.

Dauphin is now 14-5 and off to Niverville on Saturday.

Cody Zurba scored the winner as the Dauphin Clippers won for an eighth time in regular season play on Friday.

Playing host to Vincent Massey, Zurba scored with just more than five minutes left in a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Ronin Mouck and Liam Chartrand also scored for Dauphin in the win.

When it comes to the Parkland Rangers taking part, Ethan McMullan and Hayden Seib have received the call. McMullan has been one of Parkland's top defenders while Seib is starting to hit his stride with 19 points in his first 17 games of the season.

Easton Odut, who was born and raised in Dauphin, will also compete in the event. In fact, McMullan, Seib, and Odut will all be on Team 2.

Max Collyer of Onanole and Dylan Miko of Onanole also cracked rosters for the event as they will both play on Team 3. Collyer has been outstanding this year with Yellowhead scoring nine times and adding 10 assists while Miko has five goals and eight assists.

Logan Walker has been a huge spark for the Dauphin Kings this season.

Playing his first junior hockey game back in the 2019-20 season with the Nanaimo Buccaneers of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League, Logan has made stops in Alberni Valley (BCHL), Kerry Park (VIJHL), Victoria (BCHL), and Estevan (SJHL).

He played eight games with the Bruins last year and then Walker packed up his bags as Doug Hedley acquired the then 19-year-old in a trade. Walker went on to play 34 games with Dauphin last year, scoring seven goals and adding six assists and now, the 20-year-old is back and living his best life in Dauphin.

"It's been absolutely awesome in Dauphin, I love the fans and I love the community," said Walker. "We have an incredible group and I have a great billet family, I'm loving every second of being in Dauphin and being a part of the Kings organization."

To start this season, Logan has already surpassed his production from last year and Dauphin still has 30 regular season games left.

His 17 points are tied for third on the team and his 10 goals are tied with Blake Boudreau for the team lead. Being one of the most versatile players around, Logan has been fantastic 5-on-5, he has been a key piece on the power play and when the team is down a man, Walker will do whatever it takes to help the team kill off a penalty. There is no doubt that Logan is one of the most important pieces on this year's Kings roster.

"I'm very pleased with my start this year. I always knew I had it in me, I guess I just had to stick with the process and dig a bit deeper," said Walker. "With that said, I couldn't do it without my teammates. They are incredible and they push me to succeed every single day."

One of Walker's goals came last Friday when the Kings hosted Ag Appreciation Night at Credit Union Place and with it, more than 1700 fans packed the stands. While the result wasn't what the team was hoping for, Logan said it was still a game that he won't ever forget.

"It was incredible, I have never experienced something like that before," said Walker. "It was a very special event to be a part of. Unfortunately, we didn't bring our best effort, but we're still a good team."

Good teams bounce back and that is exactly what Dauphin did as they downed Waywayseecappo, 3-1, on Tuesday night. It was Dauphin's fourth straight win against the Wolverines to open the season with two more meetings to come. For Dauphin, it was their 14th win of the season and they are now just two points behind Virden for first place in the West Division and the Kings have a pair of games in hand.

"We're feeling really good in the room, we have a really tight group and that's important," offered Walker. "Something we have to work on is being ready on time and we're continuing to focus on that. It's been a great start, we know what we want to get done."

Walker will be back on the ice Friday when Dauphin opens a two-game weekend trip against the Steinbach Pistons and then on Saturday, Dauphin will be in Niverville to play the Nighthawks. Steinbach is currently first place overall in the league while the Nighthawks currently hold the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division.

"We know Steinbach will be a very tough test as will Niverville, these are two important games for us," ended Walker. "We're looking forward to getting back at it this weekend. It's also a good opportunity for our group to bond on the road."

The Parkland U18 Rangers are coming off one of their biggest wins.

On Tuesday night they made their way to Shoal Lake to play the Chiefs and they picked up a 3-2 shootout victory. It was Parkland's sixth win of the season as they're now just one point behind Yellowhead and Eastman for the seventh playoff spot in the league.

In the win, Ethan McMullan recorded his eighth assist of the season. Originally from Brandon, Ethan has moved to Dauphin for his first season with Parkland. The Swan Valley Stampeder prospect has been very impressive in his young tenure with Parkland, scoring once and adding eight assists. He's also very pleased to play on the region's lone AAA U18 team.

"Things have been going great, the group has been extremely welcoming and so has the community," said McMullan. "I've moved to a new billet home as well, it's been pretty smooth sailing here for me."

Standing in at 5'11" and 165 pounds, Ethan has worked his way to become one of the team's most reliable defenders as Tyler Carefoot has put the young man in any situation and Ethan has proven time and time again that no situation is too big for him.

Ethan's lone goal this season was a game-winner as his marker 6:23 into a game against Kenora back on October 28 proved to be the winner in a 5-3 victory against the Thistles.

"I've been getting lots of opportunities to explore new ways to play my game," offered McMullan. "I'm really focusing on moving the puck up the ice as quick as I can and making a solid first pass, that gets us going in the right direction."

With two straight wins under their belt, Parkland will return to Credit Union Place for two games this weekend as they welcome the Winnipeg Thrashers to town. The Thrashers have won 10 of their 15 games as they're fifth place in the league, with the Rangers being just five points behind them. The Rangers will then get the following week off before heading to Manitoba's capital for two games, one of which will come against the Thrashers and one against the Bruins.

Before the Christmas break, Parkland also plays Pembina Valley twice on home ice (December 16 and 17) before ending 2023 on the road in Shoal Lake on December 19.

While Ethan understands the team's schedule coming up is by no means an easy one, he is confident that Parkland can build off their win on Tuesday.

"As long as we work hard and stick to our structure, I believe we're going to surprise some teams coming up here," ended McMullan. "Everyone in our dressing room believes in themselves and we're looking forward to putting everything we have into winning games and growing."

The Parkland U18 Rangers are coming back home a happy bunch.

Playing the Yellowhead Chiefs, a team that is ahead of the Rangers, Parkland came up clutch with a 3-2 win in the shootout.

Cash Clarkson and Maddox Shindle did the scoring for Parkland in the victory and Chase Glover was outstanding in net as he made 25 saves.

The Rangers have now won two straight games and they're now just one point back of the final playoff spot.

The Dauphin Kings losing streak is no longer.

Looking to snap a two-game skid, Dauphin did just that on Tuesday night as they downed the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, 3-1, at the Arena Complex. It was Dauphin's fourth straight win against the Wolverines to begin the season, with two more meetings to go.

All of the scoring in the game was done in the second period as Dauphin struck three times while the Wolverines scored once. Dauphin's goals included Anthony Bax who scored his sixth power play goal on the season, a stat that leads the league and it was his seventh of the season. Cayden Glover also scored on a beautiful pass from Jordan Bax as Glover scored his second.

Rounding out Dauphin's scoring in the game was Blake Boudreau as he scored his 10th of the campaign while Aiden Moser scored Waywayseecappo's lone goal in the defeat.

Austin Seibel turned away 24 shots in the game as he earned his third straight win between the pipes.

The Kings will now prepare for a tough weekend that opens on Friday night when they play the Steinbach Pistons and on Saturday, Dauphin is in Niverville to play the Nighthawks. Both games will be played on the road and Darnell Duff will broadcast Friday's game opening with the Parkland Source for Sports pregame show at 7:15.

The Parkland U15 Rangers have had their fair share of ups and downs this season.

A definite highlight was winning a pair of games at the Graham Teur tournament in Regina. Meanwhile, in regular season play back in Manitoba, Parkland has won three games, their most recent came on Sunday against the Central Plains Capitals.

Tied at four with the Caps' at Credit Union Place after 40 minutes of play, the Rangers locked down defensively in the third and Ben Poole and Reese Scott found the back of the net as the Rangers skated off with a 6-4 victory.

The Rangers went 4-for-8 on the power play their they were 4-for-6 on the penalty kill. With the win, Parkland is now just 10 points back of eighth place in the 17-team circuit.

Matt Kustra is the team's head coach and he was very pleased with the effort.

"I was very proud of how the guys came out in the third and really focused to get the job done," said Kustra. "They had a 6-on-3 late in the game and we were able to keep the puck out of our net which is a huge confidence booster. It was a gutsy win for our club."

Brayden Budolowski leads the team offensively with his 13 goals and 23 points while Noah Smigelsy has 17 points. Dayson Martin (12), Ben Poole (12), and Noah Hanneson (11) are the three other members of the club who have double-digit points.

In the net, it's been a combo of Kyle Pelletier and Xander Perih. Pelletier has played just more than 387 minutes while Perih has played just more than 332 minutes. Perih was in the net Sunday for the team's victory and he was excellent as the Dauphinite turned away 29 shots to record his second win of the season. Perih improved his save percentage to .853.

Kustra, who is a goaltender himself, is very impressed by both young men.

"They both are extremely resilient, they never quit and they push each other in a healthy way to be better," ended Kustra. "We don't have a number one goalie, we have two guys who want to play and can win us games."

Looking for their second straight win, Parkland will look to achieve the feat on Saturday when they head to Warren to play the Interlake Lightning, a team that also has three wins on the season. Then on Sunday, Parkland is off to Landmark to play the powerhouse Eastman Selects. The Selects have won 10 of their 13 games so far.

"We're looking to build off our win on Sunday and we have that chance on Saturday, the guys will be ready to go," offered Kustra.

The U18 Parkland Rangers are coming home with three of a possible four points.

In the first game of their weekend set, Parkland outshot and outchanced Kenora; but it wasn't enough. The Thistles downed Parkland in a shootout, 4-3. Landyn Garton, Ethan Carnegie, and Cash Clarkson scored for the Rangers.

On Sunday, the Rangers bounced back with a 7-1 win. Cade Legaarden had the hot stick with three goals in the win.

Quinten Fisk, Ethan Carnegie, Cam Sarna, and Cash Clarkson also found the back of the net.

The Gilbert Plains Trojans varsity girls volleyball team is set to play for a Buffalo.

The team hosted and dominated their regional qualifier.

They downed Wawanesa, Treherne, and Rivers. The provincials are set for December 1 to 3 in Fisher River.

They battled back at the end, but it wasn't near enough for the Dauphin Kings.

In front of an electric crowd, Kings fans were looking for something to cheer about, but they didn't have a chance until the game was well out of reach.

Hosting Ag Appreciation, Dauphin lost to Portage, 5-3.

The Kings fell down 5-0 in the game as Portage tied the season series at a game apiece.

Logan Walker, Alex Senf, and Aidan Brook scored for Dauphin as the team has lost two straight games.
