It's been a week to remember and it's about to get better as Dauphin's Carter Williamson will receive the Youth Umpire of the Year Award next week in Brandon at Baseball Manitoba's Awards Banquet.

"They emailed me last week letting me know I won the award," said Williamson. "It means the world to me.  This will be my fifth year of umpiring coming up. I was speechless when I found out, it's a dream come true."

The 15-year-old umpired locally, as well as provincially, and his goal is to make the next step.

"Moving on to the Major Leagues would be huge for me," said Williamson. "I want to get there, and umpiring is my route there."

Williamson notes he enjoys umpiring the young kids the most because he has a brother who is six-years-old and plays baseball.

"I love seeing the little kids play ball," said Williamson. "Some days I like the more fast-paced baseball like Peewee or Bantam, but for now, umpiring the young kids is the most enjoyable for me."

Carter and his family will now head to Brandon next weekend for the Banquet that takes place at the Clarion Hotel.
