The Dauphin and District Food Bank is one of the groups to receive an upcoming donation and hopes to keep the harvesting project going for a few years.

Dauphin and District Food Bank board member, Larry Miner, talks about the cost of running the food bank.

“Well we will be buying food for the food bank to distribute to the hampers and the families that come in for help,” explained Miner.  “I don’t have a poundage amount but in our budge we probably spend $50,000 a year maybe, somewhere in that neighbourhood.  Plus we do a big Christmas Hamper run that costs in excess of $20,000 to $30,000 somewhere in that area because we do between 300 to 400 hampers at Christmastime altogether.”

The hope is to harvest the crop within the next month to help generate funds to purchase food for those in need in the area.
