The CFIB says Manitoba municipalities are overspending.

Director of Provincial Affairs for Manitoba Jonathan Alward says small business owners believe spending should be increase marginally each year to represent increases in inflation and population growth.

"So this increase in excessive overspending is everything above and beyond what we believe is a sustainable amount. For the province as a whole, from 2008-2014, these increases amounted to about $848-million above that sustainable threshold."

Alward says some municipalities are doing a better job than others. The report shows that within the seven year span studied the City of Dauphin's Real Operating Spending Growth increased by one per cent. Since the population also went down one per cent, Alward says Real Operating Spending Growth Per Capita increased three per cent.
