Arson Trial Back Dec 15
A trial in Dauphin for two men accused of arson will resume again in December.
The Crown finished calling its witnesses on Friday last week.
The last Crown witness was an expert in Manitoba gangs.
27-year-old Seamus Nepinak and 25-year-old Sean Nepinak are on trial facing four counts of arson and one count of participating in the activities of a criminal organization. Both have pleaded not guilty.
The trial is set to continue December 15.

Crash Near Yorkton Kills Two
Two people -- including a teenager -- have died in a crash south of Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Police say a south-bound car on Highway 10 collided with a car going north on Saturday afternoon.
Two males from the Yorkton area, aged 17 and 29, both died from their injuries.
STARS air ambulance attended and transported a third 18-year-old male with serious injuries to Regina General hospital.

Man Arrested After Allegedly Hiding from Police in Church
A man has been released from hospital after being shot in Brandon.
Brandon police responded to reports of an altercation between two men before 6 Saturday evening. Police say one of the men had a handgun and shots were heard.
A patrol didn't turn up any suspects or victims, but according to a police report, a male was later admitted to hospital with a gun shot wound to the chest. The report also says a 911 call indicated a man was taking refuge in a church, saying he'd just shot someone and was hiding from the cops.
Police arrested the 24-year-old accused without incident.
Correction: CKDM initially reported this happened last night, when in fact it happened on Saturday.

Brandon Bracing for Emerald Ash Borer Beetles
A Manitoba city has launched a tracking program in preparation for the advance of the emerald ash borer.
Around 30 per cent of the trees in Brandon are ash and Paul Ziesmann with the city says some Ontario municipalities have seen all of their ash tress killed by the beetle.
The beetle originated in Asia and has recently been moving across Eastern Canada and it is inching closer and closer to Manitoba.
In late June, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

StatsCan Working on Alternative to Short-Form Census
Statistics Canada is working on a plan for the 2026 census that would eliminate the mandatory short-form version that goes to every household.
The plan would save millions of dollars by using existing government databases to conduct a virtual count of the population.
This year, StatsCan mailed out 16-million short-form questionnaires, with one quarter of Canadians also receiving the long-form survey.
Documents obtained by The Canadian Press show officials hope to have a digital register of every Canadian that could be updated at least every five years, and a smaller long-form questionnaire.
