There's no surprise that the Hadway family is very big into curling. That includes Dauphin's Nolan Hadway who is playing this year on Team Brooks Freeman. It's Nolan's first year playing with the team.

He was mainly a skip of his own team last year. So far, this year's team has played a few bonspiels including one in Swan River.

"The season has been going pretty good so far, we're all coming together nicely," said Hadway. "We're having a good time on and off the ice, it's been fun."

Although they haven't had the success they would have hoped for in every bonspiel, they have finished on top once. Playing in that Swan River MJCT, the foursome came together to beat Jordon Johnson in the final. They won all four of their games in the tournament and they scored 32 points in the process.

"That felt pretty good. I actually won that bonspiel last year as a skip," continued Hadway. "It was a pretty good feeling and I also beat Jordon last year. Our whole team was pretty pumped up."

Nolan has changed positions this year. He's now playing third which means he still needs to make some big shots late in ends, but he's not throwing the final rock. That allows him to play freer and so far it's worked well.

"The big difference is not having to make that final pressure shot. With that said, I really enjoyed it, but now I have less pressure on me and that allows me to play more carefree so I can make the shots I need," continued Hadway.

Next up for the foursome is the Brandon Sunlife Financial Spiel this weekend. After that, the team will be playing in Beasujour as they look to qualify for the provincial championships that will be in Dauphin from January 1-5, 2020.

With a win under their belt, Hadway is confident the team can book a berth to the championships here.

"If we just come together the way I know we can and we make the shots we know we can, we can definitely make the provincials," said Hadway.

In Swan River, Makenna Hadway won the tournament on the women's side. She will also try to qualify for the provincials being held in town. When asked what it would feel like if she got a spot, this is what she had to say.

"It would mean the world to us, it would mean everything to play in front of all of our friends and family in Dauphin,".

Nolan was asked the same question and this is what he had to say.

"I don't think there would be any other feeling quite like it," concluded Hadway. "I had the chance to play here in the 2017 provincials and we made the finals and it was amazing. It would be one of the best feelings ever, there isn't much more I could ask for.”
