The Province gave updates on repair progress for two bridges in the Parkland that were damaged by flooding earlier in the year.
The Shell River Bridge on Provincial Trunk Highway 83 near Inglis is still closed after sustaining significant damage caused by flooding and heavy rainfall in June. The detour using Provincial Road 482 through Dropmore and Shellmouth is still open.
Engineering assessments of the bridge have been completed, and temporary supports have been installed. Necessary demolition is also complete, and work is now focused on building a new foundation, then rebuilding the riverbank and roadway approaches. The bridge is expected to reopen sometime in December, dependent on the weather.
The Provincial Trunk Highway 10 bridge over Stoney Creek near Ethelbert is still closed as well. Assessments have confirmed that the bridge sustained too much damage for repairs to be feasible, so the bridge will need a full replacement. The construction of a detour is complete, and will remain open until a permanent bridge is built.
Construction of the new bridge is expected to start over the winter, with an estimated completion date in Fall 2027.
