Prairie Mountain health will once again be holding vaccine clinics in a variety of Parkland communities, at no cost to residents.
Mari Ingram, PMH Health Services Manager, said even if you're not worried about yourself, getting vaccinated is something that protects everyone, from a wide range of diseases.
"Vaccines contain a weakened form of a bacteria or virus, which is enough to activate your immune system, but does not cause you to get the disease. To ensure you have full and lasting protection, you may need to get more than one dose of some vaccines...vaccines available this season include and annual Influenza and COVID-19, which are offered to all Manitobans 6 months of age and older," said Ingram.
Other offered vaccines include an enhanced Influenza vaccine for Manitobans 65 or older, and for the same age group, a Pneumococcal vaccine, which is a one-time dose. Plus, new this year, PMH is offering a one-time dose RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine for those over 80.
PMH is holding vaccine clinics in just about every Parkland community, big or small. Ingram said since PMH serves such a wide area, with a large number of communities, they need to make sure they offer services to everyone.
"PMH covers a large geographical area, and we really want people across the region to have easy access to vaccines. The better the coverage in our communities, the better protection for everybody," said Ingram.
