After Quebec's Provincial Election yesterday, the Parti Québécois has been elected to form a minority government.
In the previous election in 2022, Parti Québécois only won 3 seats. This time, they won 59 seats, just shy of the 64 required for a majority. All seats are shown as reported.
The most notable election promise made by Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, Parti Québécois Leader, was to pursue a referendum on Quebec sovereignty, whether he wins a majority or minority government. Both the Conservative and Liberal parties of Quebec criticized the notion, saying they would not support a referendum.
The Coalition Avenir Québec, formerly holding a majority government, fell to having 0 seats after this election. Before current leader Christine Fréchette, François Legault held the role - who was not very popular, carrying a 25% approval rate by the end of his tenure, good for the lowest among Canadian premiers.
