Manitoba Pork has been working with the provincial government to develop programming that will help increase the number of hogs finished in Manitoba, as well as increasing value added processing closer to home.
Manitoba Pork General Manager Cam Dahl (doll) feels there are a number of regions across the province that have room for growth in the pork industry.
"I think there is room for growth around Dauphin for example, as well as around Swan River. There is lots of areas for potential growth for the industry in Manitoba."
Recently, the province announced more than $100 million in targeted support for key industries - such as agriculture - that are facing increased disruptions on the international marketplace.
Dahl would like to see some of that money used as capital towards the building of more pig barns in the province.
