Today at 4:30 PM is the deadline to update your voter information with your local Municipal Government before the upcoming October 28th election. It's also the deadline to get your papers filed if you're considering running for mayor, councillor, reeve, or any other Municipal role.
Lisa Gaudet, Deputy City Manager with the City of Dauphin, said elections are usually one of city staff's most important and detailed undertakings, and they're ready to go.
"Conducting a municipal election is one of the largest administrative projects the City undertakes every 4 years, and staff has been preparing for months to ensure the election is conducted fairly, securely, and in accordance with Manitoba municipal legislation," said Gaudet.
Today is the last day to update your voter information. To do so, you'll need 2 pieces of Federal or Provincial Government ID. More often than not, changes to voter information have to be done at your local Municipal Government office.
"I would encourage everyone to make sure they're on the voters list, make sure they learn about the candidates and the issues, and that they consider running for council if they've been thinking about it. And most importantly, that they exercise their right to vote on October 28th...a strong voter turnout helps to ensure our council reflects the priorities and the values of the community, so it's very important, this election will shape the direction of Dauphin for the next 4 years," said Gaudet.
