Friday was a day that the Parkland had been waiting for since mid July - the Parkland Chamber of Commerce Street Fair returned to Dauphin, and despite a bit of rain, went incredibly well.
Kamryn Winters, Executive Director of the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, said the weather was the only small hiccup, but there were still a lot of people in attendance.
"We had a little bit of rain in the weather, I guess would've been the bad, the rain was on and off throughout the day but it didn't really stop people from coming to the street fair, it definitely didn't stop anything from the nighttime portion of the street fair, everybody came out, it seems, after work and celebrated...I think people wanted the street fair, I mean the street fair is a really nice community event, it's free for everybody, it's always, something that we've been doing for, I don't even know how many years, I wanna say over 20 years for sure," said Winters.
Normally the street fair is held in mid July, but this year's edition was delayed because of ongoing flood recovery in the Parkland. Winters said it feels really good for the Chamber to be able to put a bow on this chapter, and begin looking at the next street fair. Because of the delay, some parts of the street fair didn't go exactly as planned, but they'll be back to normal next year.
"It's nice to carry it out, wrap it up, and then look towards next year for sure...we had a lot of sponsors this year, lots of partners, we have lots of organizations that have their hand in planning the street fair activities, the Watson, I mean we had a lot planned for our original summer date with the youth stage and everything, but with kids being back in school, that kind of didn't work out," said Winters.
The Parkland Chamber of Commerce Street Fair ran all day Friday in Dauphin, giving the Chamber of Commerce, and Parkland residents, a feeling of normality after flood recovery.
