After a school shooting threat was found in the bathroom of a Winnipeg high school, hundreds of students skipped classes.
CKDM spoke with Rob Tomlinson, superintendent at the Swan Valley School Division, to talk about what safety procedures his division has in place for any similar threats.
"We train our staff that reporting is not an option. We want to make sure that we're communicating, and having those conversations over any kind of behaviour that could be seen as a threat," Tomlinson said.
He also spoke about the school division's "fair notice" policy when it comes to things like that.
"Fair notice lets [parents] know if there is a threat, it will be followed up, and the duty to report even as a student, if they see a behaviour that doesn't look like it's safe," said Tomlinson.
Tomlinson also talked about wanting to help students if they are struggling with things that lead to these behaviours.
"We have students that are demonstrating unwell behaviour, and you know that we want to support them before it becomes a bigger issue," Tomlinson said.
