It's gameday for the Bantam AAA Parkland Rangers, and the most important gameday this season as they kick off their Provincial Championships in Killarney.

Nine teams are in Killarney and Wawanesa for the Championships, with the Rangers playing two games before the playoffs, the first being this morning at 11:15 against Central Plains.

The team hits the ice again tomorrow morning at 9:30 for their second and final round robin game.

The Rangers head into the Provincials riding a six-game winning streak and are 13-2 in 2018.

It all comes down to one game between the Grand Plains Ice Dogs and the Brandon Oilers, after the Peewee Ice Dogs won game two of the best-of-three series in Grandview last night, 3-1.

Cadence Christensen, Allee Hretchka, and Montana Jubenvill were the leaders for the Ice Dogs last night.

The Ice Dogs dropped the first game in a shootout, 4-3 which made yesterday's game a must-win.

"We had a pretty tough regular season, so it was tough on our girls," said Cary Fillion, Head Coach.  "We went from winning every game last year, to losing pretty much every game this year.  The girls came together all season and played so hard last night.  We couldn't have played much better, so it was a great feeling."

Game three between the Ice Dogs and Oilers is now set for tomorrow evening in Brandon and the winner moves on.

"We need to come up with a good game plan like we did in the first two games, and execute it," said Fillion.  "Our goal-scorers scored, our diggers dug, our checkers checked, and our goaltender had a great game.  Everyone was awesome out there, and we're looking for that same thing tomorrow."

The puck drops at 5:00 tomorrow.

Playoff hockey has arrived for the Dauphin Clippers, as they kick off their best-of-three first-round matchup against Deloraine tonight on home ice.

The Clippers (22-1-0-1) played Deloraine (17-6-0-1) once in the regular season and won 4-3.

Dauphin enters the series riding six-straight regular season wins, but did lose their last game out last weekend at a Provincial Qualifier in Hamiota.

The puck drops tonight at Credit Union Place at 7:45.

The Dauphin Clippers varsity boys basketball team rebounded from a 13-point loss earlier this week, as they evened-up their best-of-three with Swan River earlier today.

The Clippers dominated throughout in winning 81-63.

With the win, the Clippers will head to Swan next week with a berth in the Provincial Championships on the line.

On the women’s side, the Clippers varsity girls lost 49-40, which most likely ends the team's season.

There are some eager hockey fans in Dauphin that are cheering extra hard for the Canadian Men's Hockey Team, as they get set for their semifinal tomorrow morning against Germany.

Chay Genoway is originally from Morden and has played professional hockey all over the world, but the 31-year-old is making his Olympic debut at the PyeongChang Games, and no one is more eager for his success than his aunt, Janice Nybo who lives in Dauphin.

"It's totally surreal getting to watch him play in the Olympics," said Nybo. "We've been watching all the games at 6:00 a.m., so it's kind of tough to get a bunch of people together, but we try out best.  My mom is 96-years-old and she got up to watch her grandson play in the QF when the Canadians beat Finland."

Genoway has suited up in all four games that the Canadians have played in PyeongChang, and the defender has one assist and is a +4.

"I think he's been playing really good," said Nybo. "I don't know what he thinks about it, but I think he's doing well.  He's always been a pretty awesome hockey player."

Genoway began his pro hockey career in 2011-2012 where he played one game with the Minnesota Wild, before finishing that season with the Houston Aeros.

After playing two more full seasons in the AHL, Genoway headed overseas and is now in his fourth season in the Kontinental Hockey League.

"I never really expected Chay to play in the Olympics because the NHL players always used to go," said Nybo. "But, when the talks began about the NHL players not going to the Olympics, we had high hopes because we knew he was playing well in the KHL."

In 54 games with Lada Togliatti this season, Genoway has 20 points. The puck drops between Canada and Germany tomorrow morning at 6:10 a.m.

It's the biggest game of the season this afternoon for the Dauphin Clippers varsity girls, as they welcome the Swan River Tigers to town for an inter-zone game.

Swan River won game one of the best-of-three series earlier this week, 57-31.  A win today from Swan River would earn them a berth in the Provincial Championships.

"We really had trouble shooting the ball in that game," said Logan Broome, Captain of the Clippers.  "If we make our shots, and play good defence, we should be just fine."

If the Clippers win this afternoon's game, the teams would return back to Swan River next Tuesday for the third and deciding game.

Before the girls game is the varsity boys game, as they also welcome Swan River to town.

The lady Clippers will hit the court right after the boys, and the boys tipoff at 3:30 at the DRCSS.

It's going to be a busy weekend at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena from March 9-11, as the Dauphin Dinos will host their eighth annual Men's and Women's Recreational Hockey Tournament.

The tournament features 18 teams, nine women's and nine men's, which are split into three pools of three, with the round robin taking place on the 9th and 10th.

"It's really good hockey," said Ann Ransom, Member of Dauphin Dinos Women's Hockey.  "It's pretty fast-paced, and it's a lot of fun.  It's recreational, but we definitely keep it pretty competitive."

The men's event features teams from Dauphin, Swan River, Ste. Rose/Laurier, Erickson, Gilbert Plains, and The Pas.

On the women's side, teams from Roblin, Swan River, Brandon, Neepawa, Killarney, Minnedosa, Souris, and Winnipeg, as well as the Dauphin Dinos, will compete to become Champion.

The first game of the tournament comes on the men's side at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th at Credit Union Place.  The women's tournament kicks off on Saturday morning at 9:30 at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena.

From March 8-9, Dauphin's Kaila Stratuliak will be battling against some of the best U18 women's rugby players in Canada as she and the rest of the U18 Manitoba women's Rugby Team will head West for the Vancouver Rugby Festival.

"It's pretty amazing," said Stratuliak. "I get to represent my province, and show off my skills against the best of the best."

The Festival will be the first competitive tournament for Kaila since she separated her collarbone before the National Championships earlier in 2017, that she was forced to miss.

"I'm just really excited to get back at it," said Stratuliak. "Injuries are never good, so it's nice to be back on the field. I just want to show what I can do, and play my best."

The Festival is taking place at the University of British Columbia.

26 goals later and the Grandview Comets are heading to the NCHL semifinals as they beat Foxwarren last night, 9-1 to sweep the Falcons.

Luke Stokotelny led the Comets with two goals, while Chris Porter also added two goals. Jason Shaw, Dallas Drysdale, Jerron Kyle, Joran Hedley and Regan Hedley all scored one goal in the series clinching game.

The Comets will now get several days off before finding out who they will play in the semifinals.

Dauphin's Wade Kopytko is gearing up for the Westman High School Hockey League playoffs as a part of the Dauphin Clippers, and the Dauphin native has been having a good season so far.

In 18 games, Wade's chipped in 23 points.

"I feel I've been having a really good season," said Kopytko. "It didn't help when I suffered a concussion, but other than that, it's great."

Kopytko lit it up this past Saturday when he scored three goals as the Clippers beat Virden in a Provincial qualifier.

"That game definitely gives me lots of confidence heading into the playoffs," said Kopytko.

Now, the Clippers are getting set to welcome Deloraine on Friday in game one of their best-of-three first-round matchup.

"We're all ready to go," said Kopytko.  "Everyone's feeling pretty confident.  We just need to do the little things and, hopefully, we'll come out with the win."

If you're looking to watch Brigette Lacquette and the rest of the Canadian women's National team as they play for a gold medal against the United States, Dauphin Rec Services has you covered.

"We're lucky enough to have the Lacquette family come out and watch the game here at the Curlers Lounge," said Andrew Smith, Assistant General Manager at Dauphin Rec Services.  "We've decided to put the game on the big screen, so everyone can come out and enjoy."

Puck drop for Canada and the USA is set for just after 10 tonight, but the lounge will be open prior to the game.

"I would suggest that everyone comes and gets a seat early," said Smith.  "It's probably best to come by 9:30, so you're not standing up the whole game."

Canada will be chasing it's fifth-straight gold medal.
