It's been quite the last year for Roblin's, Jakob Brook. First, he played his first full season with the Prince Albert Raiders. A season in which he had 14 total points as the team won the Western Hockey League.
Now, the 17-year-old is off to Calgary as he's been invited to Canada's National Men's Summer U18 Team selection camp from July 26-30.
If Jakob is successful, he'll represent Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup early next month in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
"It's an awesome feeling. Only 43 others were invited, so I'm pretty pumped up," added Brook. "It's definitely a once in a lifetime experience."
"I'm ready to showcase my strengths and hopefully, I can impress the coaches and scouts," Brook continued.
Jakob's older brother, Josh has worn the maple leaf on his jersey on a few different occasions. Most recently, he played on Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Vancouver and Victoria.
Josh will now play his first full season in the AHL with the Laval Rocket. With the advice that Josh has handed down to Jakob, he's feeling there's no reason he can't make the team.
"Yeah, obviously you need to have confidence going in," continued Brook. "I'm going in to make the team and if I don't, it's a letdown obviously. I'll give it everything I have."
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup goes from August 5-10 and Canada faces off against the Czech Republic, Finland, and Switzerland in the preliminary round. The bronze and gold medal games are on August 10.
If Jakob did get the opportunity to join the team, it would change his life.
"It would be awesome. You grow up wanting to play on Team Canada, it's been my dream for as long as I can remember," said Brook. "Seeing my brother playing for the team has really pushed me. I really want this."

The Ste. Rose Rockies Grand Slam team got to play where the professionals play over the weekend, at Shaw Park.
They also took part in the Winnipeg Goldeyes pre-game parade on Saturday night.
Ryder Rodriguez was also on the field for the anthems as a part of Baseball Manitoba Day at the Park.
The Goldeyes capped off the wonderful evening at the ballpark, by walking it off in the ninth inning in a 7-6 win against St. Paul.

During the winter months, Strathclair's, Conor Geekie is all about hockey. His success on the ice led to him being drafted second overall by the Winnipeg ICE back in May. He then signed his first ever Standard Player Agreement on May 31.
During the summer, although he still focuses plenty of time on hockey, Conor picks up a baseball glove and laces up his cleats to play another game he excels at.
Over the weekend, the 15-year-old played with Strathclair at the 15U Provincial Championships in Brandon. A 3-1 round-robin record earned the club a semi-final berth against the top-ranked Pool B team, Swan Valley. Strathclair came out swinging and they were sharp on the mound and defensively in a big 11-0 win.
The only team in their way now was Rock Lake.
Strathclair had a 3-2 lead in the fourth, but Rock Lake scored twice to take a 4-3 lead. After tying it up in the sixth, Strathclair decided it was time to take over. They scored four times in the seventh and shut down Rock Lake to earn an 8-4 win and a provincial title.
"It was a pretty cool feeling to win. We had a couple of kids that have never played baseball before. It was their first kick at the cat and to pull off a title, it's pretty sweet," said Geekie.
"Some kids were pretty nervous as the game went on," he added. "We made some errors, but we never got down on ourselves. We just stayed as positive as we could and we turned it on in the seventh."
Conor reached base all three times in the finals and drove in two runs.
The win gives Conor three provincial titles to his name. He also won with Strathclair when he was 11 and 13.
Conor will now prepare for the 15U AAA provincials from August 2-4 in Winnipeg. He'll play on Team Midwest. With three weeks until that event, Geekie is feeling good.
"We have a pretty special group. We've won the past two tournaments that we've played in," added Geekie. "We all get along really well and we know our roles. We're hoping to bring a title home, that's for sure."
Less than two weeks after that event, Conor is heading to Swift Current. He's playing with the 16U Team Manitoba men's baseball team as they take part in the Western Canada Summer Games. The team will play British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.
"I'm really excited to play with the team. It's pretty cool that I'm one of the underage players, that's a neat fact," said Geekie. "It's going to be a really challenging tournament, but our team should stack up pretty well."
As soon as Conor gets back from Swift Current, he will put his focus solely on preparing for his first Winnipeg ICE main camp which is slated for late August.
Even though his mind is mostly on baseball right now, Geekie is still training for what's coming up in the fall.
"Yeah, of course. I'm shooting pucks and getting on the ice as much as I can," said Geekie. "I plan on getting to Winnipeg as much as I can. Training is huge for me. I'm really excited to get things going with the ICE, so I have to be ready for late August."

The Grand Plains Celebrity Classic will be played on July 27 at the Gilbert Plains Country Club and once again, it's going to be a star-studded field.
All throughout this week, we will unveil "Celebrities" that will tee it up at the event.
Today's reveal is New York Islanders defencemen, Ryan Pulock. The Grandview native has played every single year since the event started. This will be the fourth year.
Two years ago, he was inches away from getting a hole-in-one and a $15,000 prize.

Two well-known Parklanders have been added to the Dauphin Kings coaching staff.
The first addition is Jayson Argue. He lives in Dauphin and he's set to become the team's Goaltending Coach. The team's second addition is former Parkland Ranger, Brad Dupasquier. He joins the organization as an Assistant & Video Coach.
Jayson joins after a very solid season where he played in goal for the Swan Valley Axemen. Prior to that, he played four years with Bentley University (NCAA Division 1).
Before that, Jayson played for the BCHL's Nanaimo Clippers. Argue also played 71 games with his hometown, Swan Valley Stampeders.
"I'm really excited to join the Kings. I've talked to Doug lots over the last couple of weeks and understand the direction they want to go in," added Argue. "I've seen the acquisitions they've made recently and it's been nothing but positive news. Dauphin back when I played was a pretty impressive organization and that's what I'm excited for, being around that every day."
Doug Hedley is set for his second year back behind the bench for the organization, and he's thrilled that Jayson will be joining the program.
"We're very happy to have Jayson on board especially considering he lives in town and can be on the ice multiple times during the week. He's played NCAA and it's a place where our guys want to get to, so the experience there is a great thing," said Hedley.
"We're very thankful for the time that Dan Averill put in for us. He was tremendous support for our goaltenders last year; it was just more the proximity and travel. Dan will stay with us as a scout." he added.
Brad Dupasquier has coached with Doug in the past as an Assistant Coach with the Parkland Rangers. Brad also was the Head Coach of the Parkland Rangers. He spent last year with the Central Plains Capitals.
"It's an honour and a privilege to be associated with the Kings. I know that they're taking great steps moving forward with not only Doug but the entire staff in place. It's a group of great people and they all have a common goal. I'm really excited about the fact that I'll be operating a software program for the video that 26 of 31 NHL teams use," said Dupasquier.
Brad is also excited to be back on the bench with Doug once again.
"Familiarity is good and I just know that everything is directed in a positive direction when it comes to the development of players. That's really what it's all about and I'm very fortunate to be a part of it," he concluded.
The drive towards the 2019-2020 season continues. They play their first regular-season game on September 20 in Swan Valley. The Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy Home Opener is the next night when Swan Valley pays a visit to Credit Union Place.

Golf Manitoba is holding their junior golf championships right now and a couple of Parkland athletes are in it.
Leading the Parkland is Swan River’s, Ethan Weir. He’s in 27th place after shooting 26 over in the first two days.
Dauphin’s, Thomas Scott, is one behind at 27 over and that has him in a tie for 28th.
Neepawa’s, Hayden Delaloye is at 32 over, which has him in 35th.
The final two rounds of the tournament will be played across the road from Pine Ridge, at the Elmhurst Golf & Country Club.

The Parkland Pirates 14U rugby team showed how strong rugby is in the area this weekend.
They finished with a silver medal at the Man/Sask Championships that took place in Winnipeg.
In the final, the team played Northern Saskatchewan, who entered the tournament looking to repeat.
The Pirates played a very strong game, but they came up just short, 23-10.
Prior to their only defeat in the entire tournament, Parkland went on a roll.
One of their wins came against Northern Saskatchewan in the round-robin, 21-14.
They hammered Southern Saskatchewan, 45-5, and they beat the Westman Rush, 22-0.
“I’m very proud of every single player on this team,” said Aaron Miner. “They all worked so hard, and gave it everything they had.”

Joan Miller took home the title at this year’s Home Hardware Women’s Open at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club earlier today.
In all, 74 ladies took part in the event.

The Parkway Lanes 11U baseball team’s season has come to an end.
After losing to Pembina Hills, 11-6, yesterday, the team lost 14-6 to Niverville today.
They went 1-2 at the provincials. In their win, Cody Zurba hit a home run and Brayden Budolowski pitched a complete game in a 12-1 win.

The good times keep on rolling for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to start the season.
They beat Ottawa, 29-14, to win their third straight game to begin the campaign.
Nic Demski led the offensive charge with 120 yards through the air.
Matt Nichols was solid, but he did leave the game in the third quarter. Despite leaving, Nichols said after the game that he was okay.
Winnipeg plays Toronto next week.

The Challenger Soccer Camp travels around the world teaching young aspiring players the ropes of the game as they look to develop.
Last week, they were in Toronto, and this week, they made a stop in Dauphin. Over 20 kids played all week long starting on Monday at Vermillion Sportsplex. The camp featured coaches from England, Ireland, and Scotland, and they taught the kids drills and the players also took part in a mini World Cup.
It was every day from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Jessica Myhre organized the camp and she's thrilled with how it went.
"It was a fantastic week. Having this camp is going to help the kids stay excited about playing the game," added Myhre. "They were able to develop their skills without having to go to the big city or anything. The coaches were great with the kids and we can't wait for next year's camp."
The coaches didn't have to stay in hotels while they were here. Carla Prokopchuk and her family took in three of the coaches for the week. Ryan, Sheri Gardner, and her family stepped up to take in the other coach. That allowed the coaches to experience the best of what this area has to offer after the camp ended each day.
"The coaches had a really good week with their host families, and we're super thankful that both families stepped up to bring them in," concluded Myhre.
This week officially concludes the Dauphin Soccer Association's season. Stay tuned for details on when the next Challenger Soccer Camp will take place. For now, the camp moves to the Flin Flon area and Langenburg, Saskatchewan.
