Will Munro has the great ability to beat a defender with his speed and when he gets close to the net, he uses his soft hands to either set up a goal or score himself and starting Sunday, he will be looking to show off exactly what he can do.
Munro, who calls Swan River home, was drafted by the Kelowna Rockets, 228th overall in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. He took part in their camp last season before returning to the region to suit up for the Parkland U18 Rangers but when he makes his way out west this time, he's looking to stay.
Will will hit the road on Thursday ahead of the Rockets' main camp which is slated to begin Sunday. Trying to make the roster on a team that is one of the most storied franchises in the WHL is a daunting task; however, Munro says he has been working very hard during the off-season and he's looking forward to the challenge.
"I'm really excited about this. It's a very different atmosphere from what I'm used to," said Munro. "Everyone is so skilled and the pace is the next step above compared to AAA. I have to get used to it quickly and I believe I can. It's special to be invited to camp and I have to make the most of it."
Will is coming off a very solid season in which he scored 25 times and added 20 assists with the Rangers. Then in the playoffs, Munro found the back of the net four times while adding two assists as he helped Parkland make the second round of the playoffs for the first time in more than 20 years. Playing two years with the U15 Rangers and the past two with the U18 club, Will says he is extremely lucky to have had such great teammates and coaching staff that pushed him to the limits every single practice and game.
"Being a Ranger was always something I wanted to do when I was growing up," said Munro. "I would always watch them when they came to town and to be a part of the team for the past four years, it's been an amazing experience and I couldn't have asked for more."
Kelowna is also coming off a strong season as they went 42-20-1-5 to finish fifth in the Western Conference and they were only 10 points behind Everett who finished first. They were; however, downed in the first round against Seattle. The Rockets last won the Western Hockey League back in 2015 when they beat the Brandon Wheat Kings in four games. Will says if he were to make the Rockets, it would be a dream come true.
"It would be a great honour, not that many people can say they play in the WHL," ended Munro. "Especially being from Swan River, such a great hockey town. Guys like Steven Arp, Tristan Langan and Riley McKay, to name a few have had that chance. I would love to be the next player from Swan River to play in the league, we will see what happens."
Arp is now preparing for his second season with the Medicine Hat Tigers, he scored three times and added six assists last season. Langan; meanwhile, was very busy last season. He had 47 points in 51 games with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. He also had three points in eight games with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and he also suited up in five games with the Manitoba Moose.
McKay will return to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL after playing four games with them last season. He also played 51 games with the Indy Fuel of the ECHL where he scored 14 times and added 13 assists.

It takes skill and plenty of great shots to win men's night. On Tuesday night, that's exactly what Lloyd Campbell and Gary Maxwell did.
They completed a perfect run on the A-side to win the Gilbert Plains Country Club Tuesday men's night. They downed Aaron Short and Jeremy Mills in the final.
Lloyd and Gary -- who won five games in the regular season -- caught fire in the finals as they were six up with seven holes to go. After Mills and Short won three straight, Campbell and Maxwell finished it off to win the championship.

The Parkland U18 Rangers preseason schedule includes a game on September 20 when the Yellowhead Chiefs come to town. The Rangers and Chiefs are longtime rivals and last year, the Rangers ousted Yellowhead in the first round of the playoffs as they advanced to the second round for the first time in more than 20 years.
Now the team is looking ahead to this season beginning with training camp which is slated to begin next Tuesday at Credit Union Place. Tyler Carefoot will return as the team's head coach this season and he's looking forward to getting going. Registration to try out for the team wrapped up earlier this month and about 30 players signed up.
"Overall, we're pretty happy with the numbers heading in," said Carefoot. "We have a few guys from Swan River, Russell, McCreary and then our Dauphin contingent. Looking forward to next week, that's for sure."
Parkland won 18 games last season as they finished fifth in the regular season standings. The Rangers' top two scorers from last season aren't eligible to return this year as Jayce Legaarden and Rylan Gibbs have both graduated from the league. Kyan Grouette; meanwhile, will look to crack the Everett Silvertips roster. He made his WHL debut last season. Will Munro, Carter Zalischuk and Madden Murray, who ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively in scoring for the team last year are all eligible to return.
The battle in the net will be one of the most intriguing battles throughout camp and the early parts of the season. Kyler Swanton will return while Chase Glover and Owen Martyniuk are now eligible to play on the team after they both put together solid seasons with the U15 Rangers last year.
This year's roster will ultimately be a rather young one but it will be one that Carefoot believes will have the right tools to succeed.
"I think we're going to be competitive and I think we're going to be a tough out," said Carefoot. "We have some firepower with guys that are able to come back. We'll also have some younger guys that are good players. We're looking forward to getting the group on the ice and going thru the paces."

The event was the Pine Creek First Nation four-person scramble, the Dauphin Lake Golf Club was the venue and Ivan Roulette provided fans with the highlight of the day.
Playing the par 3, 11th hole, Roulette struck the ball beautifully and it ended up going into the hole for a hole-in-one. It was the fourth ace of his career but it was his first in tournament play.
"We didn't even know it went in because the hole was tucked behind the bunker," said Roulette. "We saw that it looked right at the pin from the tee box and when we went up to the green, we noticed it was in the hole, pretty amazing feeling."

The feeling of football is in the air. Following a run to last year's league final where they came up short against an incredibly impressive Swan Valley team, the Dauphin Clippers are back on the field in game action this weekend.
Their opponent is a team they are unfamiliar with as the Winnipeg Falcons pay a visit to town for an exhibition contest.
It's the first of eight games leading up to the playoffs for Dauphin. It's also the first of three straight home games for the Clippers who also play the defending champion Tigers and Interlake during their homestand.
A great group of volunteers came out Monday to get the field painted and ready for Friday and now, kickoff is just days away.
"We have a solid coaching staff and a great group of players," said Cam Bennet. "We'll be ready to go on Friday, everyone is very excited to get the season going."
"When my son was playing years ago, we played a couple of games against Winnipeg teams and we thought we were going to get dominated," said Bennet. "We ended up tying both games and competed very hard. We don't know what to expect but we're ready to compete."
Here's Dauphin's complete schedule:
