The City of Portage la Prairie hosted Rogers Hometown Hockey over the weekend.
The event took place throughout the weekend, and even coincided with the Portage Terriers playoff game on Sunday.

Mayor Irvine Ferris says it brings a lot of people to the community.

"First of all, it brings a lot of visitors in. We've got visitors, I've met people from all over Manitoba here today. It's very exciting to see the crowds."

Portage la Prairie MLA Ian Wisehart describes what the event brought to Portage.

"great to have people here, and it's good recognition for our very strong hockey history here. Good recognition for the kids that are playing these days, and it's great for the parents. They chase around after the kids to make sure they have chances in Hockey, and it's really great to have these kinds of things come to town."

Former NHLer Arron Asham was in attendance as well. Asham grew up in Portage and enjoyed a 14 year-career in the NHL.
