The Brandon Wheat Kings have named their new head coach.

Former Dauphin Kings assistant coach David Anning has been named the franchise's new head coach in the wake of Kelly McCrimmon stepping down from the role to join the NHL's new Las Vegas franchise.

Anning helped the Kings win an Anavet Cup in 2010. After that season he joined the Winnipeg Saints where he served as the Head Coach and GM.

Anning coached with Winnipeg, Dauphin, and Steinbach in the MJHL over 6 seasons before joining the Wheat Kings in 2012-13.

The Wheat Kings also hired Don McGillivray and Aaron Rome as assistant coaches.

Former Wheat Kings assistant Darren Ritchie is stepping into the role of Director of Scouting while Tyler Plante rejoins the Wheaties as Goaltending Coach.
