The Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins later this week in Rivers as the best women's curling teams in the province battle for a provincial title.

The event welcomes the likes of Team Jennifer Jones, Team Kerri Einarson, and much more. Dauphin doesn't have any representation at the event when it comes to playing, but that doesn't mean the City of Sunshine won't be making a big difference.

Two members of Dauphin Rec Services have been selected to attend the event and work on the ice crew for the entirety of the event.

Cory Bremner and James Slykhuis will join the world-famous ice maker, Greg Ewasko and his crew.

"I'm really excited about this and I know James is as well," said Bremner. Working at the juniors earlier this month was the first big curling event for me. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to learning a lot more."

Cory and James were both a part of the very dedicated group of workers from Rec Services that made sure the ice in both the Dauphin Curling Club and Credit Union Place was at its best for the entirety of the Telus Junior Men's and Women's Provincial Championships.

Later this week won't be the first time that Cory and James have worked alongside Greg. He was also the Head Ice Technician for the event in Dauphin which was an extreme success.

"It was honestly almost overwhelming with all the stuff that Greg taught us," continued Bremner. "We filled up multiple pages of paper and of course, any of the stuff that we retained ourselves as well."

Cory is also one of the Zamboni drivers at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena and he stays extremely busy while doing so. Since learning a ton at the beginning of this month, Cory and the entire crew have also been receiving compliments about the ice inside of the Dauphin Curling Club.

"People are really happy with how we've been maintaining the ice since that event," concluded Bremner. "It's nice to hear from the public that you're doing a good job at your job."

Cory and James will hit the road on Thursday morning and they'll return to Dauphin on Sunday.
