The best senior curlers in the province will take over the Rivers Curling Club and Minnedosa Curling Club this week as the Senior Men's and Women's Provincial Championships go down beginning tomorrow.

A team that will be there is Gilbert Plains, Butch Mouck and his foursome. He's joined by Glenn Parrott, Scott Gray, James Barnett, and Jim Dowsett.

"We're very positive, we've been practicing and getting ready for this," said Mouck. "There isn't much going on this time of year as far as bonspiels. It's a really tough field and realistically, half of the field could win this thing. We're excited about it."

Mouck's foursome begins their seven-game round-robin tomorrow afternoon at 12:30. Game number one comes against Murray McLeod. This year, the foursome heads into the tournament not ranked. Only the top five teams are ranked, topped by Randy Neufeld.

With that being said, Mouck, Parrott, Gray, Barnett, and Dowsett will certainly be in tough. They're joined by the number two ranked team, Dave Boehmer and his foursome. Also, the third-ranked, Kelly Robertson rink is in his pool. That team includes a couple Parkland curlers and you'll hear from them later today.

Just four teams will advance to the playoffs which go down on February 25. That will be the standard page playoff where the top team plays the second place team for a spot in the final. The third place team plays the fourth for a berth in the semi-final against the loser of the 1-2 game.

"We've played well this year, we've won a few spiels and we know we can get on a run and beat any of these teams," added Mouck. "We just need to go in and play our regular game. We have a game plan and we have to execute it. We get to practice before tomorrow which allows us to get used to the ice. It should be a fun week."

The team's 30-minute practice is later today.
