Gas prices have gone up 7 c/L in the past couple of hours in Dauphin. Starting this morning at 120.9 c.L, Coop in Dauphin is now selling gas at 127.9.
And the increases are happening all across Manitoba. The average across the province right now is 126.58 c/L.
Gas prices one year ago were 56.3 c/L cheaper than they are now and in the last month, prices have gone up about 9.3 c/L.The five-year average sees 2020 as a year with the cheapest gas dating back to 2016.
70.31 c/L in 2020, 127.65 c/L in 2019, 120.65 c/L in 2018, 104.20 c/L in 2017 and 94.20 c/L in 2016.

A positive case of a COVID-19 variant of concern has been identified at a business in Swan River.
The Swan Valley Co-Op confirmed the positive case was at the store on April 8th from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The store released a public notice on Friday, saying the employee didn’t have any close contact with customers, and that the risk to the public is low.
The positive employee and all close contacts are self-isolating.
The store remains open to the public.

Manitobans travelling to Ontario for non-essential reasons will be turned away as of Monday, including those who want to visit their cottages in Ontario.
The Ontario government is implementing new travel restrictions and border checkpoints to limit access from Manitoba and Quebec.
Access will only be permitted for those travelling for essential work, medical appointments, transportation of goods, or those exercising indigenous treaty rights.
Manitobans are strongly discouraged from all non-essential travel, including inter-provincial travel.
Under current public health orders, anyone entering or returning to Manitoba is required to self-isolate for 14 days.
In a press conference Friday, Manitoba’s Deputy Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Jazz Atwal, said the province is considering bringing back checkpoints at highway borders and airports, to provide information about quarantine requirements.

More pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinics are coming to the Parkland next week.
The clinic at the Ukrainian Orthodox Hall in Dauphin will operate on Thursday, Apr. 20 from 12:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Friday, Apr. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The clinic at the Swan River Veterans Hall will return on Apr. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The province notes that a number of appointments that were scheduled from Apr. 12 to Apr. 15 are being rescheduled due to delays in vaccine shipments.

RCMP are looking for several suspects after a robbery in Swan River.
On Thursday, April 15th, RCMP received a report that a man and woman had been assaulted and robbed while driving near 1st Street North and 9th Avenue North in Swan River.
A release states that the couple stopped at a stop sign, when a group of individuals opened the doors to their vehicle and pulled them out.
RCMP say the suspects assaulted the victims, stole items, and then fled.
The victims have been treated and released from hospital.

Officials have expanded the vaccine eligibility in Manitoba to include all adults in priority communities and first responders.
People living in communities with the highest risk of the virus will be added to Manitoba’s eligibility criteria, including all adults aged 18 or older who live there, and people with specific front-line roles in those communities, such as teachers.
Eligibility will also include all front-line police officers and firefighters in the province.
The province says there will not be enough vaccine to immunize everyone in these categories immediately, and they will announce the first eligible communities on Apr. 21.
Further details on when police and firefighters can book their appointments will be provided next week.

She was reported missing on February 25th.

The Dauphin Agricultural Society has announced that they will be cancelling their 130th annual fair.
The fair was scheduled to take place from July 2nd to the 4th, 2021.
The board of directors says they have considered all possible options and measures but feel they are unable to deliver a high-quality event that their patrons, sponsors, and community would expect.
They would like to thank the community for the support and are looking forward to seeing everyone at the fair in 2022.

When Jaycee Berezowski was just four-years-old, her mother Jenine showed her how to use her cellphone in case there was an emergency and two years later, Jaycee saved her mom's life. Jenine had dental surgery on March 23 in Winnipeg and she was staying at a family's home just outside of Winnipeg.
All was going well for the two days, but things took a turn for the worst on March 26 when Jenine discovered that he was highly allergic to the medications she was prescribed, so much so that she collapsed on the bathroom floor and she couldn't talk or breathe and that's where Jaycee comes in.
Watching her mom in distress, Jaycee took her mom's phone and called 911. Being outside of the city, Jaycee had to walk outside so she could guide the paramedics to the home, which was a success. The paramedics arrived on the scene and Jenine was taken to the hospital and she has since returned to Dauphin in good spirits.
Jenine says she is so grateful for what her daughter was able to do.
"I couldn't believe how calm she was. It was so sudden that it all happened," said Berezowski. "Watching her face, she was so calm. She grabbed the phone and she knew exactly what to do."
The young hero received a teddy bear and a note from the paramedics, but the only thing that matters to her right now is that her mom is safe after the scary accident.
With the accident now in the past, Jenine believes it is a great idea for all parents to show their kids how to use the cellphone in the case of an emergency. When Jenine returned to teaching at Mackenzie Middle School on the Monday after spring break, she told all of her students what happened and she also taught them how to call 911.
"I reach out to parents now and I tell them how important it is to teach them," said Jenine. "When I taught her when she was four, I never thought she would ever have to do it, but sure enough she ended up saving my life."
Jaycee now walks around the house with the doctor doll that her mom bought her and the doll that she got from the paramedics. She also took the doll to school so she could share everything with her classmates.
"She's so proud of herself, she walks around with her head held high as she should," offered Jenine.

And while she may only be six-years-old, Jaycee has big dreams. When she grows up, her goal is to be a veterinarian.
"I was strong under pressure when I needed to call the paramedics and that's one of the reasons I want to be one," ended Jaycee. "I also love animals and I love how veterinarians give animals the best chance to live their best life when something happens."

The Dauphin Agricultural Society held their virtual spring meeting on Thursday, where they announced the winner of this year's Ron Brook Memorial award.
This year's award was presented to Rodger Sheldon from Ste. Rose.
Tere Stykalo with the Dauphin Ag Society says Sheldon is a very worthy recipient and adds “he is a pillar to the community when it comes to agriculture.”
Sheldon has worked in agriculture in the Parkland for most of his life, in many different positions. Sheldon says it’s an honour to be nominated and win this award and is thanking all of the people who have helped him along the way.
