The convoy of protesters that passed through Manitoba on Tuesday will be arriving in Ottawa tomorrow. They will be met by convoys from all around Canada and even some from the United States.

A group of drivers from The Parkland, led by Dustin Taylor, traveled to Brandon to show the convoy their support.

They are planning to be at Parliament Hill around 11 am CST tomorrow and we'll bring you updates from their protests as we get them.

On Wednesday the Manitoba RCMP East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST) re-arrested 18-year-old Sean Murdock from Fisher River

Murdock faces an additional six counts of Public Mischief in relation to other swatting calls.

After a search and investigation the Mounties found out he made an additional six swatting calls to various police departments located in the United States including;

  • Bridgman Police Department (Bridgman, Michigan)
  • Appleton Police Department (Appleton, Wisconsin)
  • Lane County Sheriff’s Office (Lane County, Oregon)
  • Indianapolis Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (Indianapolis, Indiana)
  • Colonial Police Department (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)
  • Collinsville Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Office (Collinsville, Illinois)

These calls ranged from active shooter to bomb threats involving large facilities in these cities.

As a result of the calls, numerous law enforcement personnel were dispatched to these locations which were all determined to be false.

Murdock is scheduled to appear in court on March 8 in Peguis First Nation.

The Dauphin Courthouse is getting an additional $4 million from the province for its expansions and improvements. This money is on top of the $11 million that was earmarked for the renovations last March.

The extra money will cover cost increases of materials and labour that has happened during the pandemic, as well as extra costs found during the design phase.

As part of the work being done, there'll be improvements made to video-conferencing, meeting spaces for lawyers and their clients, and accessibility upgrades.

The Manitoba Snowshoe Run is changing things up this year to make sure everyone who wants to participate can. They are still hosting their annual in-person run on Louis Riel Day, but this year, participants can also do the run on their own, anytime in the month of February.

In a press conference today, the Provincial Government announced they will be extending the current public health orders by one week, until Tuesday the 8th at 12:01 am. You can find all the restrictions that are in place here.

During the press conference, they also announced a new program for anyone who is transferred out of their home public health region. 

We are putting a new program in place that will provide financial assistance for meals, transportation and accommodations or link to community support resources when a person is relocated to a facility outside of their region for on-going inpatient care.” - Health Minister Audrey Gordon

The program will allow for up to eight visits per month by a designated support person and will include:

  • Meal vouchers so the designated support person can dine with the client when on-site meal service is available, or assistance to a maximum of $8 for breakfast, $10 for lunch, and $15 for dinner when on-site meal service is unavailable;
  • Transportation assistance of return bus fare or gas expenses; and
  • Accommodation assistance up to a maximum of $70 per night plus taxes

 They are still finalizing the details of the program that will be put into place in early February.

Jaime Mari Adri Centeno, 26, from Neepawa has been arrested and charged in relation to luring and child pornography offenses.

Conteno was originally arrested in 2018 and charged with offenses including Extortion, Possess Child Pornography, and three counts of Luring. He was released from custody with conditions to appear in Brandon Provincial Court, where the charges remain.

On April 18 of last year, Conteno was involved in a routine traffic stop, where he was found to be in violation of his release conditions. Investigators from the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit(ICE) became involved and Conteno was arrested on April 28, 2021. He has been in custody since.

ICE continued their investigation and discovered that Conteno had been in contact with multiple females under 18. It was determined that Centeno was posing as a teenage male, speaking to these young females using Snapchat, requesting sexual photos from them, and meeting some of his victims in person.

The victims were all between 11 and 17 years old and the communication occurred between March of 2019 and April of 2021 when he was arrested and remained in custody.

In total, Conteno has been charged with 88 offenses including:

  • Luring a Child x 34
  • Make Child Pornography x 21
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching x 8
  • Sexual Interference x 5
  • Sexual Assault x 5
  • Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child x 5
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order x 5
  • Transmitting Child Pornography
  • Possessing Child Pornography
  • Sexual Exploitation of a Child
  • Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration
  • Obstructing Justice

Centeno will remain in custody until his court appearance on February 10, 2022 in Brandon.

The R.M of Lakeshore would like to remind its residents about what to do when cleaning private lands or driveways of snow.

When cleaning your property or driveway make sure to not leave snow on the municipal roads and/or shoulders because it creates a dangerous and hazardous situation for snow clearing equipment as well as other motorists and snowmobilers who travel in the ditch.

The R.M. reminds you that leaving the snow on the road/shoulder is against Section 217(1) of the Highway Traffic Act and anyone who deposits snow on the roads will be required to remove it immediately for the safety of all in the area.

According to the RCMP, Luc Desruisseaux, who had been missing from Fork River since October has been found deceased, foul play is not suspected.

RCMP received a report on January 23rd that Desruisseaux hadn't been seen or returned to his home since October and his family was concerned when they couldn't get in contact with him.

Garton's Auction will host the Manitoba government's Crown land lease and permit auctions that begins on Monday, January 31.

A number of agricultural Crown land parcels will be available to rent for haying, grazing or cropping.

"There are about 170 parcels up for auction this year," said Larry Garton. "The initial bidding begins at $200. Some won't get any bids, plenty will get some and last year we even had some parcels of land go for upwards of $20,000,"

The parcels of land are all over the province and the auction will run until Friday, February 4.

Last Friday the Sandy Bay Detachment of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to reports of a male being shot at Main Road and Ridge Road on the Sandy Bay First Nation.

Upon arrival, Police and EMS found a male with a gunshot wound and he was taken to hospital in stable condition where he went into surgery.

While investigating the police found out the male had been sprayed with bear mace before being shot after an altercation and a suspect was identified who is believed to be known to the victim.

After a search for the suspect, the MFNPS issued a warrant on Monday for 23-year-old Ethan Markus Beaulieu who is facing several charges including:

  • Discharging a firearm with intent
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to an order
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowingly
  • 2 counts of Fail to comply with conditions of a release

Beaulieu is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. It is believed that he has several tattoos on his face including the number 39.

Last Thursday the Manitoba First Nations Police Service received reports of a missing person from Waywayseecappo First Nation.

30-year-old William Ernest Shingoose Jr. has not been seen or spoken to since January 17 and his family are concerned for his safety.

William is described as approximately 5’3” with black hair and brown eyes and weighs approximately 200 lbs. He has a scar on his nose and has multiple tattoos such as Lazy Bones and Zoey on his left hand and King of Hearts on his right hand.

He was last seen wearing a red champion windbreaker-type jacket, red t-shirt, red sweatpants, puma high tops and a black and red Jordan baseball cap.
