In just a few days, the sounds of hooves pounding the dirt will echo through the Ste. Rose Race track for the weekend.

PHA's Secretary Faye Soucy is excited to watch the races and gives us a sneak peek to what's in store for the weekend.
"We'll be having our chariot races at 3 o'clock on Saturday, and 6 o'clock for chucks, we'll have a petting zoo coming out, we're going to have a really fun jam session for everyone to take part in and then on Sunday, we'll have chariots running at 1'o clock and chucks running at 3"
Soucy notes that in her opinion, the chuckwagon races are the big-ticket event.
"every wagon has 4 horses running on it, and it always brings a lot of energy and activity to the races, but it's not to say the chariots aren't a lot of fun too. We have 2 horses per chariot, but chucks are usually the biggest draw."
There's certainly a lot happening this weekend in the parkland, but if you're looking for real horse-power, The Chucks and Chariots Races in Ste. Rose Will be the place to be!

Christopher Bilay has been arrested and he faces a slew of new charges after a traffic stop in Dauphin earlier this week.
On June 13 at about 10:40 p.m., Dauphin RCMP was on patrol when a vehicle heading northbound on Main Street was seen travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result, a traffic stop was initiated.
Once officers approached the vehicle, they could smell alcohol and a large bag of unmarked cigarettes was in the centre console. Bilay was given a roadside alcohol test, which he failed. A search of the vehicle revealed a homemade gun with a bayonet attached, a spent round of ammunition, unused ammunition, multiple cell phones, and Canadian currency.
At the time of his arrest, Bilay was on parole for drug trafficking-relation charges and he was breaching several of his conditions, including abstaining from alcohol, not owning or possessing more than one cellphone, and abiding by a curfew.
Bilay has been charged with Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon Without a Licence, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon, Weapons Possession Contrary to Order x2, Drive While Impaired, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

It's awards season in the automotive industry and Dean Cooley GM continues to make great waves across the country.
The dealership recently was awarded the General Motors President's Club award, which is given out to the top 50 dealerships throughout Canada. This is out of the more than 450 dealerships nationwide. Also recently, Bryan Byers was again in the Top 10 when it comes to vehicle sales just as he celebrated his 12th anniversary at the dealership.
Now Dean Cooley GM has been named a Top 5 finalist for the Canadian Automotive Dealer Association Laureate Award in Retail Operations.
Candidates are not able to nominate themselves which means Dean was nominated by his peers in the industry. Following a careful review, only 15 candidates' names are brought forward as finalists in three different categories.
In a press release, the president and CEO of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association said every candidate is doing an incredible job.
"This process was designed so that only the top performers become finalists," said Tim Reuss. "This year's 15 finalists are an outstanding group of dealers."
As the team now waits to find out if they are the winning dealership, Dean knows this couldn't have been possible without the amazing team he has assembled.
"We have a great amount of experience here at the dealership and we have teammates that are so passionate and they care about their customers," said Cooley. "That's the difference for me, we have an incredible group of people that want the best for every customer. We feel very humbled to know that we have made the top 5, we are flattered."
Dean is also very proud of what everyone at the dealership has been able to accomplish.
"We have been in business for almost 30 years and we have never been nominated or made the top 5," offered Cooley. "It's a real feather in the cap for our entire team, everyone works so hard and everyone has one common goal and that's to make the customer happy and taken care of."
June 26 is when the winner of the award will be announced.

Portage La Prairie RCMP just made details of a missing person's case public, in an effort to find 55-year-old Brian Tammie.
On June 1, 2023, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a missing 55-year-old male from Portage la Prairie.
Richard Brian Tammie was last seen on April 27, 2023, at his residence on Saskatchewan Avenue East, in Portage la Prairie. He is 6’2”, 265 lbs with brown/white hair and hazel eyes.
Richard Tammie is known to have ties to Thornhill, British Columbia, and Moncton, New Brunswick.

An investigation is now underway after the Dauphin Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Tuesday morning.
At about 6:15 a.m., crews were dispatched to the fire in the Triangle Mobile Home Park. Upon arrival, crews made their way into the residence and no one was home at the time. The firefighters were quickly able to confine the sufficient fire to one unit, although there are no damage estimates at this time and there are no injuries to report.
With the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, the investigation is now complete and it has been determined to be suspicious in nature. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Dauphin RCMP at 204-622-5050.

A brand-new fire truck will soon be on the way to the Town of Minnedosa.
Thanks to a $175,000 donation over the past two years from Cenovus Energy, which runs an ethanol plant in the community, the purchase of a new fire pumper will happen. $100,000 of the donation came to life because the Town entered into a fire services agreement with Cenovus Energy.
Minnedosa has also been working on a fire training centre for their department members and regional partners. Cenovus originally gave $25,000 before providing another $50,000 this year on top of the $100,000.
Jim Doppler is the chief administrative officer for the Town of Minnedosa and he was thrilled to find out about the donation.
"It allows us to not only complete our training centre but enhance it," said Doppler. "The fire services agreement also allows for some specialized training for our fire department and that's an attraction for us."
The Minnedosa Fire Department is volunteer run and Jim continues to be amazed at the work they do to protect and serve not only Minnedosa but surrounding areas.
"They are very engaged and very well trained," offered Doppler. "We have never had a shortage of volunteers so we are very well served by our fire department."

The Second annual pride celebration in Winnipegosis took place last Saturday, and it was a big hit!
A huge crowd, several vendors, and floats gathered in the town to spread a message of acceptance, understanding, and love.
Pride Winnipegosis President Cyndie Blythe and her wife Dr. Alison Carleton were very busy for the day, and Dr. Carleton was ecstatic about the turnout.
"It's been great! it's like double last year. I think last year we had just 1 vendor, and this year we've had 5 or 6. it's cool to see that people care about this community and want to participate"
Dr. Carleton also noted that seeing such support in a small town like this was amazing, and she was happy to get a chance to have this entertaining and educational event.
"This was an event we put together primarily for education. we wanted to show people that there are other ways of being than what they might know from their lived experience so far. it's also to broaden people's views and also to show acceptance of the community"
The Community showed a lot of support with the parade having a sizable attendance and quite a few poeple taking in the parade as it rolled through town with a police escort.
With the second annual Winnipegosis Pride being over twice as successful as the first year, the future is certainly looking more welcoming and accepting.

The trail that surrounds the town of Ste. Rose will see some serious developments with the new funding announced today.
Marie Sorlie, The Recreation Director for Ste. Rose is excited that this funding can finally be announced.

The Co-Op Community Spaces donation of $80,000 will allow the phase 2 projects that are planned for the area to go forward.
These projects will include expanding the trails, possibly adding a kayak and canoe launch, adding a disc golf course, and even adding a Nature Playpark to the town, which announcements will be made this week on its location.
It'll be behind the community hall in Ste. Rose. everyone is invited. it'll be a little community gathering.
This new donation brings the money raised for phase 2 to nearly $180,000 which Sorlie hopes will rejuvenate the town, the trails, and the tourism they bring.

A Swan River man is off the hook.
34-year-old Dallas Genaille was arrested in connection with a drug and firearm bust in the town back in 2021. Last week in Swan River Court; however, all of the charges against him were stayed.
In February of 2021, Swan River RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in the community where they found drugs believed to be crystal meth and cocaine, as well as firearms, cash, and drug paraphernalia.

Roblin's 8th annual Show & Shine returns this weekend with The Rumble In Roblin.
Starting at 4 pm on June 17th, a myriad of muscle cars, hot rods, classic cars, and more will take over Main Street in Roblin.
Event Coordinator Keith Fast is hoping to have just as many, if not more, cars than last year for this awesome evening.
"So our best year was 156 participants. We're hoping for at least that. we're hoping for more. It's free to enter, it's free to come down that night as well. it's a free event, free admission, and we'd just love for you to come down to Roblin on June 17th."

"We have it on main street every year to showcase our downtown Roblin, stores are open late, we've got lots going on that night, just a great night to come out and enjoy all the cars."

A very dedicated group of people in Grandview with a vision started the Grandview & District Health Foundation in 1998. Their goal was to support and enhance local health facilities.
Now going by the name of Grandview & District Community Foundation, the 25th anniversary was hosted recently with a free community BBQ at Wilson Park.
"We felt it was an occasion that was very important for us to celebrate," said Tannis Pulock, president. "Our intention was to host an event that would bring our community together to recognize all of the work done by past members and to create excitement for the future."
While the barbeque was free of charge, donations were welcomed and in all, a total of $4036.95 was collected. The money will now go towards purchasing new pool chairs at the Grandview swimming pool.
"To say we were overwhelmed by the response of our community is an understatement," said Pulock. "It was just another case of community members from Grandview and district coming together for a great cause."
Over the past 25 years, more than $350,000 has been given back to the community thru the Grandview & District Community Foundation. That includes money going to the Grandview Legion, Grandview Homecoming, Grandview Manor, the Parent Advisory Council, and Kidsport Program, to name a few.
Tannis has been with the foundation for five years. She first joined because she knew the good they were doing in the community and she wanted to be a part of it. Pulock is also incredibly proud to be a part of such a special foundation that does so many amazing things.
"It's really important to me to carry on the work of the founding members of the organization and to those who have succeeded them," ended Pulock. "This is only possible because people have chosen to donate and make an investment in our community. I am very proud to be a part of such a generous community."
