The Assiniboine Community College Parkland campus was packed with people at the Parking lot party last night.
Potential students toured te facility, checking out the various facilities that ACC offers.
Stacey Purdy, Administrative Assistant was thrilled to see how the event went.
"Oh, it was a fantastic turnout! I don't think we could've asked for much better. The weather kept up for us for the portion outside, and we had about 100 people come by, maybe more."
With such a great turnout, Campus Director Carol Stewart is looking to do it again.
"We'd absolutely love to do this again. If you didn't make it out, you're welcome to still pop by campus any time. We have a very friendly team here, our doors are open. You can find all our contact info on our Facebook page and we'd love for you to check out what's going on. we've got lots of updates on things. The campus is here for the community, so you're welcome any time to come in and meet us, and learn more."
ACC hopes to get plenty of interest for the many courses they offer, ranging from Nursing, Electrical Work, early childhood learning, Horticultor, and much more.

Work has begun on constructing a rubberized track at the DRCSS.
Aaron Beddome is co-chair of the athletics competition for the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games, and says the new track will be a great legacy left from these games.
"Having a proper rubberized track means you can have proper track meets and record proper times and distances. Athletes are able to wear spikes, so they can compete and feel good about having a proper track meet. And hopefully, it draws in people from other areas."
Beddome adds the track will be done in plenty of time for the August 15th start of the Athletics competition at the Manitoba Summer Games.
He says that track can be used by people of all ages after the games wrap up.
"It will certainly be open to be used by anyone. Also, I have learned that there is an opportunity to start a track club in a rural area like Dauphin. There is a $10,000 grant available, so anyone that is interested in starting something like that up, there is money to do it."
Beddome also says equipment that the host committee has purchased for the Athletics competition at the Games will also be left with the high school as a legacy from the games.

Three more Parkland and surrounding area communities have been added to the RCMP Musical Ride's Summer tour of Manitoba and Ontario.
The 21 horse and officer troupe will be in Erickson on July 24th, with tickets for that show available through the Erickson Chamber of Commerce.
The group then moves up to Swan River for shows on July 27th and 28th during the Northwest Roundup and Exhibition.
Dauphin gets its chance to welcome back the Musical Ride on August 3rd, with the group's tour of our area wrapping up the following day in Ashern.

The Manitoba Government has put out a bulletin, raising awareness about Aquatic Invasive Species this summer season.
Invasive plants and animals are an ever-growing concern in the province as things like Zebra mussels, Spiney water flees and water lettuce continues to spread.
Cleaning, draining, and drying your boats are legally required for all watercraft, and extend to other equipment too.
Water pumps, fishing gear, flotation devices, and trailers also need to be carefully maintained to prevent the spread of these organisms.
Fines for not removing boat plugs could be up to $237, and not stopping for boat inspections could net a fine of $672 dollars.
So do your part to Stop AIS and preserve the beautiful freshwater we share in Manitoba.

The Manitoba legislature has passed a bill to recognize March 31 as Two-Spirit and Transgender Day of Visibility.
The bill was put forward by Logan Oxenham, a backbench member of the governing New Democrats who is transgender.
Oxenham has said the day would provide a chance to show transgender, two spirit and non-binary Manitobans that they are supported.
The bill was backed by most legislature members who voted on it, except for four members of the Opposition Progressive Conservatives.
Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine called the no votes "disgusting."
Some 20 other bills are expected to go to a final vote Monday before the legislature's summer break, including one to end the province's ban on homegrown recreational cannabis.

Gilbert Plains is in for a full weekend of rodeo excitement with their Broncs, Bulls, Barrels, And Ballgowns event!
Courtney Roehl, event coordinator is thrilled to see how this event has grown since its inception last year.
"We can't wait! We have people coming from all over Manitoba, from all the way down in the Winkler-Morden area and Saskatchewan. We're very excited to host this event in Gilbert Plains."
This year adds two new events, dozens of competitors, and plenty of other entertainment, it's sure to be a wild ride.
Tickets for the weekend are $25, $10 for single-day passes, and kids 6 and under get in for free
This two-day event kicks off Saturday at 2 pm, with a party going on at 8 pm. Sunday features a wide range of rodeo action including barrel racing, bareback bronc riding, bull riding, and more!
So get ready for some serious Rodeo action this weekend in Gilbert Plains with the Broncs, Bulls, Barrels, and Ballgowns Event!

In the courts this week, a new court date was set for a teen arrested following a traffic stop in the city last November.
18-year-old Diondre Nicholson was arrested after drugs and weapons were seized from a vehicle, with his matters set to return to Dauphin court on June 11th.
And a man convicted in connection with a June 2022 drug bust in Dauphin was also back in court this week.
41-year-old Trevor Sutherland remains in custody and is due back in court on June 25th,

Over 400 people have responded to the Community Safety & Well-Being Survey so far with their thoughts on improving community safety in our city.

The wet weather has been creating serious problems for producers, and the roadways they travel.
RM of Dauphin Reeve Ernie Sirski is increasingly concerned about the moisture.
"The first thing it does is impact our roads. it wasn't just the rain, but it was also that snow fell last Thursday-Friday. Snow is actually worse than rain because snow doesn't run off, it just sits there."
These roads have proven tough to maintain, as the machinery to repair the ruts can barely make it through the soggy conditions.
Sirski also mentioned that some river crossings have also needed repairs multiple times.
The heavy rain has also been pushing seeding time frames to an uncomfortable limit.
"We're fighting an inadvertent amount of water here right now. we had a great start on April 28th, had a couple of days off, and then a week where we really had great seeding conditions and then it just got miserable."
With seeding just past the 50% mark for much of the northwest region, a time crunch has become very apparent for local producers.

The Parkland Chamber of Commerce and Workforce Education Manitoba are putting on a Parkland Business Bus Tour in mid-June.
Participants will visit Winnipegosis and Ste Rose on June 11th, before seeing businesses in Dauphin, Gilbert Plains, and Grandview on June 12th,
Stephanie Jaddock with Workforce Education Manitoba says they are looking to build essenttial skills through this event.
"Those are things like what kind of reading and writing and what kind of communication skills you need. And I think that just bringing awareness to what workplace education can bring to businesses and individuals to help them grow and reach their goals that they have individually or as a business or as a community. And I think that creating a collaborative environment where we can share information and learn from each other - I think the bus will really help us with that."
Chamber Executive Director Stephen Chychota says there are several benefits for members to take part in one or both days of this event.
"The story telling that we have on this and the ability to share what is going on out here. We can not share enough about what is going on in this region. And there is a tremendous amount of opportunity, but also progress that is happening. And we have to be able to tell that story. I think that it is making those connections and having that ability to collaborate - it is getting members together."
Participants can register for either one day at a cost of $50, or both days for $80.
