The Dauphin Kinsmen Business Expo promises something different each year.
There will be more entertainment, and the group is hoping to make their 50/50 draw an even bigger one.
Dauphin Kinsmen Business Expo Chair, Dan Pylypchuk, talks a bit more about what you can expect:
“We have a pile of new exhibitors, and if you think it’s the same old show and, oh yeah, it’s just a hot tub show, or it’s just a boat show; no, it’s been evolving.”
The money raised from the event goes back into the community, and has been used, in the past, to purchase items for the pool.

Members of 5 commodity groups were presented information on a proposed amalgamation of their organizations.
The proposal was laid out for producers who attended CropConnect 2018 in Winnipeg.
Toban Dyck, Director of Communications for Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers, says there was one main concern producers voiced:
“The size of the board and representation of small crops on the board.”
A final vote on amalgamation will take place one year from now, at the different organizations' AGMS.

Parkland producers are feeling the strain of a shortfall of rail-cars across Manitoba.
There are reports that thousands of orders for cars were cancelled by both leading railway companies.
Federal legislation, intended to help resolve the issue, is waiting on a third reading in the Senate.
Dan Mazier, the President of KAP, notes the Parkland sits on the CN line, and recommends, if you are having trouble, contact the KAP office.

MLA Brad Michaleski has received a petition from Roblin, concerning the loss of a contract to their local pharmacy.
Roblin was one of several rural community pharmacies who lost the opportunity to provide service to their local personal care homes, through a tender process.
Michaleski notes how he feels about this:
“I know our government is working hard to fix finances in the province, and utilizing tender process for procurement of government services is a sound and well-known business practice, to ensure the value for money is gained. So I am not surprised that our health authorities would use that tool to deal with some procurement of drug costs and, again, an effective tool to ensure the value for money is considered.”
Michaleksi has responded to the petition to Mitchell’s Drug Store, and clarifies this is not to centralize services.

This long weekend is a Free Ride Weekend and the Dauphin Snowmobile Club is hosting a ride for newcomers.
Those interested can ride along “North Salty’s Loop” with the help of local guiding riders.
The club plans to leave by 1 in the afternoon, on Sunday.
New snowmobile riders in the Winnipegosis area are also encouraged to attend. They are planning to leave from the Mossey River Inn.

An open house is planned for Workplace Essential Skills Training Centre’s new location in Dauphin.
It’s located at 138 1st Avenue S.W. Unit B and, along with the new location, they’re launching a new session for clients, as well.
Parkland Region Coordinator, Charlene Gulak, explains what the new session is:
“Something that’s brand new for Dauphin, as well as the Parkland Region, is a five-day workshop, which is called Communication In the Workplace. The premise is that skills training in the workplace relating to communication in the workplace, is promoted so specifically, focusing on the workplace expectations around communication; soft skills pieces; how to speak effectively, or listen effectively; being an active participant in a respectful workplace; working together with others; promoting positive interpersonal skills.”
The open house is on Thursday, from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon; and, to register for any of the WEST office’s sessions, call 648-6755.

Reports are saying fire crews were called to a location south of Swan River in the RM of Swan Valley West just before 11 this morning.
A building was fully engulfed in flames but no other details are available at this time.

Dauphin’s Countryfest announced 10 new acts for this year’s festival.
Honeymoon Suite, Bobby Wills, Rivertown Saints, and Leaving Thomas highlighted the announcement this morning.
This was the latest wave of announcements by Countryfest.
The 2018 festival will be held from June 29th to July 1st.

Four companies will operate retail cannabis locations across the province.
One of the companies is a new business, partially owned by Fish River Cree Nation.
Tokyo Smoke is another partnership, with BOBHQ, a head shop from Brandon.
The other 2 companies are Delta 9 Cannabis Inc., and National Access Cannabis.
There is still no word on how many stores and locations each retailer is allowed to open.

Grandview residents can express their health care concerns in an open house, hosted by the Manitoba Liberal Party.
MLA Jon Gerrard is stopping in six communities, in the province, to get feedback.
Gerrard explains why Grandview is one of the communities chosen:
“We’re holding it in Grandview, in part, because there has been a lot of concern there about the future of their ambulance service.”
Grandview residents can share their health care concerns on Thursday, at the Drop-In Centre, at 10:30 in the morning, until 12:30 noon.

Three people are dead, in a 6-vehicle accident, south of Minnedosa.
Last night, a small SUV lost control and rolled into the southbound lane of Highway 10.
Both occupants of the SUV, a 67-year-old female and a 51-year-old female, from the RM of Glenella-Lansdowne, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 56-year-old passenger, from Waywayseecappo, in the first vehicle struck, was also pronounced deceased. Three other occupants of that vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Six vehicles were involved in the collision, with three additional people sent to hospital with minor injuries.
